Spain and the War in Iraq Heather Gist Upper Iowa University Although Spain’s stay in Iraq was short, it most certainly did not go unnoticed; while most Spaniards were against the joining of US forces in Iraq, Spain provided assistance against the beliefs of their people and while in Iraq were accused of hanus crimes such as torture and soon after would call for a quick pull out. While overwhelming polls in Spain were showing 90 percent of Spain’s population against its people going to assist in the war, Aznar, made it clear he wanted troops sent over to assist in a no combat role. Citing the need for staffing military hospitals to assist with treating the wounded as well as to distribute supplies which consisted of food among other items. Throughout the widespread criticism, Aznar’s government
Darwin Mushrush Am. st. 100 Prof. Smythe December 15th, 2011 The War in Iraq: What Did It Really Cost? The war on terror in Iraq was one of the most controversial periods of conflict in U.S. History, overshadowed only by Vietnam. The United States got involved in Iraq in March of 2003 because President Bush and Prime Minister Blair claimed that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction and also had relations with Al- Queda, the terrorist group responsible for the September 11th attacks. The U.N. sent personel into Iraq to investigate for weapons, but came up empty.
yasmin ALi Instructor: Croon English 101 10: am July, 30 2008 Invasion of Iraq The debate over the Iraq war is getting more complicated as some Americans’ believe invasion of Iraq was the righting to do money opponent believe that the us attack on Iraq was wrong from the beginning, because claims of Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction and saddam- alqaeda link were all based on faulty. Even thou war is necessary sometimes to establish order and the cases of taken action has to be careful evaluated to avoid mistakes like the Iraqi war. For a centuries money westerns have cherished the tradition of victory. The blood shading, destruction of country, high cost of the war, the lost of innocent life’s and pollution of the environment are not worth especially when is based on false pretense.
The Vietnam War Heather Cameron Axia College of the University of Phoenix The Vietnam War Every good American, before the war in Vietnam, held their political leaders and Congressmen in high regard. It was during the 1960's that this viewpoint began to change as the American death toll began to rise. One major viewpoint, eerily similar to today, was that though the intentions of entering into the conflict were good, the fact that it seemed to be a losing battle and the costs seemed to be too high; it was time to pull out of Vietnam. The other side of that coin was that there was a purpose for going into Vietnam and we should not leave until the job was done (Schulzinger, 1999). It had not been since the early 1940's that the
Aiming to win back support from the American’s, as many people did not support the Vietnam war due to the bad media that was publicised. This was the first War to be so publicised and it shocked many of the people back home. This lead to Anti-War protest, which became one of the US governments aims to stop. However they still stuck to the aim to try and contain Vietnam from the spread of communism and supporting the SV defeat the VC in nearby country Cambodia. On the other side the aims of the NV government and their terrorist organisation the VC did not alter as they still aimed to persuade the SV government to vote for Vietnam to become a communist country.
Despite its success in extracting its first barrel of oil in July 1999, Talisman was accused of fueling the civil war, believing that the Sudan government used oil revenues to purchase weaponry. Talisman was also accused of being complicit in the genocide that was taking place in Sudan. This by no doubt has a great impact on Talisman’s reputation and caused a stir of controversy. However, it’s also a learning experience for the company when making future decisions and if ever they encounter similar situations they will be better equipped. What are the learnings from Sudan experience?
The Vietnam Soldiers Secret Enemy COMM/215 June 4, 2012 The Vietnam Soldiers Secret Enemy Usually when someone thinks of a soldier’s enemy, they expect them to be wearing a uniform and carrying military weapons. Sometimes the enemy is disguised, and they may be carrying cameras and microphones. Even though they have freedom of speech, the media's exaggeration of military facts was almost criminal. Their lies caused more casualties than the American public realizes. The country's support for the military was being affected negatively, and the soldiers fighting in the war were unaware of the lies being spread by the media back home.
The mission was to rebuild the infrastructure. Build schools, medical clinics and sanitation facilities but the enemy kept attacking us and blowing up our projects. The people and the city council didn’t do much to help us combat the insurgency. You get to a point where you ask yourself why am I putting my life on the line and the people of this town don’t really care if you help them or not. You find that your efforts and your friends who made the ultimate sacrifice have been in vein.
They believe this was a right that they were given by our Four Fathers, which is clearly not true. Yes, they have the freedom of speech but when should the freedom be taken away? What about the rights of the innocent victims and their families? Hate crimes, because of their nature will always lead to violence and this is not a freedom that people should have. In my opinion, the penalties for hate crimes should continue to be more severe than that of a regular crime because so many innocent people are injured and even killed simply because they are different.
Some people may argue that killing during war is a sin because many people end up losing their lives, on the other hand others may say that killing during war should not count as a sin because the soldiers are risking their lives to protect their land and the innocent people who live there. Although most people say that it shouldn’t count as a sin because when soldiers fight during war, they are protecting their land and the innocent people that accommodate it. They also have orders from the military leader that they cannot disobey. It is also mentioned in the Bible and the Quran that people must protect their country and others who live there. Killing people during war time should not count as a sin for many reasons.
