More often, the filmmaker uses a camera to regulate how an object will be photographically registered on the film. Through the camera, the filmmaker can manipulate the motion’s speed, or select the range of tonalities or even transform perspective. 1- The range of Tonalities This is the image texture whether grey or black and white or colors. There are types of film stocks such as contrast refers to the degree of difference between the darkest and lightest areas of the frame. Filmmakers can use Contrast to guide the viewer to certain aspects of the frame. A very fast film stock, one that is very sensitive to reflected light, will produce a contrast look, while a slower, less light-sensitive one, will be low in contrast. Colors can be “Black and White, colored, blue, red, vivid colors”. Different color film stocks yield varying color contrasts. Often the timer consults with the director to select a key tone that will serve as a reference point for color relations throughout the film. The range of tonalities in the image is most crucially affected by the exposure of the image during filming. The filmmaker usually controls exposure by regulating how much light passes through the camera lens, though images shot with correct exposure can also be overexposed or underexposed in developing and printing.
