Interpretation Project 2 Step 1. For my second interpretation project, I will be discussing the four steps of the Interpretive Journey in Journey into God's Word: Your Guide to Understanding and Applying the Bible. We are going to see how these four steps apply to the Galatians 5:16-18 interpretation. The first of the four steps is “grasping the text in their town.” When reading these three verses, I found that the main point of the passage comes from verse 16, which states: “But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.” In Galatians 5:16-18, Paul urged the Gentile Christians to walk in the Spirit and by doing so, they would not desire to do the works of the flesh. Step2. The second of the four steps is “measuring the width of the river to cross.” There are several differences between the biblical audience and us today. For one, our cultures are different. There are more distractions in our world today, that tempt the desires of the flesh. The times we live in now are different than that of the biblical audience. We live in a society today, that goes against everything taught in the Bible and encourages this type of living. However, there is not a big river that we have to cross with Galatians 5:16-18. We can apply Paul's teaching for our lives today, just as the biblical audience was taught to do as well. Step3. Now lets look at the third of the four steps, which is: “crossing the principilizing bridge.” What is the theological principle in Galatians 5:16-18? As Christians, we should live by walking in the Spirit and focusing our minds on Christ. In doing so, we will not want to do the desires of the flesh. We should spend an ample amount of time in reading our Bible and in prayer to help fight off the desires of the flesh. Step 4. The final step of the four steps in the Interpretative Journey is
