1. Introduction Explain the issue you are examining and why it is significant. For our research proposal, our team wishes to examine the recent topic of a proposed bill by the U.S. government to censor the internet. The bill is called SOPA; which stands for Stop Online Piracy Act. This act would give the government the power to cut off certain websites from the web. In the past twenty years, the amount of change the internet has brought to the world and the American people is unparalleled in history. The phenomena of the internet and free information has sparked so much new technology, so many new ideas, and has broken down so many walls of communication and trading that it is a tidal wave of change. Because the internet is evolving and spreading so fast, many governments of the world have implemented censorship of the internet and many others might are doing the same. Combining these two types of research will generate the best of both methods and result in research data that will be more beneficial to the project. Using mixed research will allow researchers to use surveys, interviews, and other methods that they find useful for the study. Data will be able to be analyzed and put into formats that fit the particular audience at hand. Mixed research will also allow researchers to obtain more in depth data. Consideration needs to be taken into account that there will be some respondents that aren’t aware of or have never heard of SOPA. Finding the right respondents is an obstacle that will also have to be tackled. By conducting a majority of the research via internet will give this research the type of respondents needed for this study.
