In this essay I am in agreement with Kierkegaard that in the present age, we as a society lose character in the process of reflecting upon what we are ought to, and expected to do. According to Kierkegaard, the present age is considered to be reflective; reflective in a way that we allow deliberation to take over our sense of action. Having said this, we always tend to get lost in our thoughts. Though we may have excellent ideas we plan on acting upon for example, there is always a sense of thought that holds us back from actually acting on what we planned to do. At the beginning of the text, Kierkegaard says, “before taking the step, he deliberates so long and so carefully that he literally chokes with thought” (3).

“How has your understanding of the consequences of change been shaped by the techniques used by various composers.” Change is the omnipresent, inevitable process of transition from one condition to another. Through close analysis of Robert Frost’s poem A Roadside Stand one can form a specified judgment of change as a process that produces catastrophic consequences through the observation of literary devices including metaphor and animal imagery. The historical context of the poem highlights such consequences of change from a socio-economic and subjective standpoint. David Fincher’s film adaptation of Chuck Palaniuk’s novel Fight Club exposes the multi faceted nature of change as an inevitable and difficult evolution with both negative and positive consequences. This specific nature of change is explored and presented through the use of camera technique to symbolise the individual processes of change.

Adversity, Change & Conflict In the short story "An Hour with Abuelo" by Judith Ortiz Cofer, there were many themes. The most significant theme is no matter how old they are, you should treat your elders with respect. This theme is shown in the text because the protagonist Arturo had to make a decision on whether he should spend time with Abuelo or not. Conflict in Literature "All conflict in literature is, in its simplest form, a struggle between good and evil". Literature as a whole has played a huge part in the history and development of our societies. Prompt 1980: A recurring theme in literature is the classic war between a passion and responsibility. For instance, a personal cause, a love, a desire for revenge, a determination to redress a wrong, or some other emotion or drive may conflict with moral duty.
