Inequality in our Country Women’s Studies ECampus Inequality among men and women has been a part of our country’s fabric long before our forefather’s penned, “The Declaration of Independence,” stating “all men are created equal.” This declaration reflected the patriarchal system and the dominant view of men in society. Some people say it is based on the “Situated Knowledge,” pointing to different and historical situations that give rise to different theories and explanations. Others point to the “Standpoint Theory,” where the development of four elements contribute to the construction of a standpoint, which serves as a place to generate understanding. Inequality is a part of our human condition, not created from a specific theory, but a combination of elements that create an inequality of men over women. Those who believe in standpoint theory don’t realize that this used alone is limited. This standpoint theory simply gives the facts of the circumstances alone. Taking into account any four elements, different people will produce different outcomes. This is only part of the puzzle as to why inequality exists. The “Standpoint Theory,” contend that four elements, physical location, interests, access to discourse, and social organization of knowledge production, create social and historical situations. Other scholars believe, someone born into all successful aspects of the standpoints is born to be a powerful successful man. A man born into a prominent white family is more likely to be successful. Not only are they more likely to be successful, but they are more entitled to a successful position in life. A man who holds all successful aspects of the four elements, was raised with the general knowledge to be a leader and a success. America has elected powerful white men as Presidents for over 275 years because that is who is
