I intentionally used logical fallacies in my below argument against reality TV. I thought it would be fun to predict what could happen, on an exaggerated and non-economically correct scale, if the number of reality TV programming got out of hand. Over the last few years, America has seen a growth in the number of reality television shows. Production studios keep adding reality programming to their schedules because of its cheap budget, but they are unaware of its dangerous effects. Reality TV not only takes up space of what could potentially be a great scripted series, it will put other shows out of business, affecting thousands of jobs. Reality TV could end up jeopardizing the economy and our society. With reality television reaching more audiences, the future of scripted dramas and movies will be short-lived, leading to the end of the entertainment industry as we know it. Reality TV serves as a cheap "filler" studios use instead of investing money on high-budgeted scripted series. With the continued success of reality TV, more and more writers for scripted shows will lose their jobs and change professions. This could create job competition for people outside of the entertainment industry and could even affect the economy. This rift will not only happen in the television business, but will occur in the movie industry as well. More people susceptible to free entertainment will mean less moviegoers and profit for the movie industry. This will cause a deficit in unique shows and movies due to a low amount of competition as well as falling standards. Some blame stagnant writer earnings for the writer's strike a few years ago. Reality TV caused the writer’s strike last year since the strike happened after the sudden increase of reality programming in the past years. This is just a preamble to worse, upcoming events.
