Antonia is a young girl who deals with family issues and overwhelming responsibility in her one depressed parent family. On the other hand Jazz deals with trying to make her parents accept who she truly is and she also constantly rebels. While Jazz's Gothic look may be deceiving but she is completely different once you get to know her. Someone of her appearance would never be assumed to play the piano and save lives as a lifeguard. While the two girls have their own unique points they also have one thing in common and that is family issues.
As Alice had to grow up basically looking after her self and her younger siblings she learned that even if you do not have support you still need to follow your dreams and live you life. This is a large aspect to how Alice discovered herself. Alice's parents get extremely angry at her and blame her completely for the accident. This circumstance is a critical one on Alice's journey to self-discovery. Alice learns how protective and careful she has to be while looking after her brothers and sisters.
You could tell Lily was afraid of her father, seeing how she hesitated to tell him about events such as her birthday. Lily was also born and raised in rags, since her mother died when Lily was at a young age. After her mother died, Lily was stranded with a confused and angry father, and had to sew her own clothes, since it is all she had. These two stories already look the same, and both are only a fraction of the way in. Huck’s life was extremely terrible until he starting living with the Widow Douglas, which is the equivalent of when Lily went to live with the Boatwright sisters.
An example of Evyn being unintelligent was when her so-called friends, Andrea’s group, calls her Evelyn and doesn’t talk to her unless it’s to ask about updates with Ajax, she doesn’t realize that they’re just using her. Evyn was also, very inconsiderate and selfish. She didn’t seem to notice how happy her father, Birdie was after he had proposed to Eleni. Evyn doesn’t seem to care what his father felt and made it harder for him. “Bounce” was an interesting book that showed problems that actually happen to 13 year olds.
Connie’s Escape Connie is fifteen and is always worried about how her appearance looks. Her mother don't like the fact she spends more time looking her self herself in the mirror then being neat and responsible like June, her older sister. Connie seems to ignores her mother’s criticisms most of the time. In order to escape her reality she opens the screen door to get away for from her family and be in some kind of fantasy. I think there were other reasons also, but the story points to this one in many places.
Melinda turned from being a loving young lady who had a close relationship with her parents to a recluse who became distant to her parents, friends and everyone. She became unable to continue a relationship with anyone including her parents and she kept all of her feelings contained within. It seemed to me that quite possibly she was afraid to tell people of what had
Lucy’s idea of beauty is external, her mothers internal. This contrast leads to a lack of communication about Lucy’s changing physique and leaves Lucy on her own to form an opinion of what a woman is, what she should look like, and how she finds love. Lucy’s mother never discusses the disease with her, or what changes she will see in her body. Lucy is not comfortable asking her mother for help because she knows that her mother “never recognized that her anger scared all of us into retreat. By churning problems through her own personal mill, she kept us from ever discussing a problem outright,
She describes Stella-Rondo be inconsistent and unstable based on her being spoiled when they were children. Sister uses this immediately to make a point of her sister’s unappreciation for everything she has ever had. But she never describes how she behaved as a child which can be suggested that she may think the reader can assumed she was the better of the two. Then, she goes to say that out of nowhere Stella-Rondo leaves her husband and returns home with a two-year-old child whom she claims is adopted. Sister sees right through her sister’s façade considering the timing of everything.
The books ‘Anne of Green Gables’ written by LM Montgomery and ‘Lullabies for Little Criminals’ written by Heather O’Neill are similar and different in many ways. These two well written novels are very similar, two main similarities are both Baby and Anne were never loved properly, and both Baby and Anne’s mothers died. Yet both novels are very different from each other, two main differences are Baby is loved in the foster home she lives in and was better off in it, yet Anne was neglected in her many foster homes, and both Baby and Anne are very smart individuals but Baby gets put into a practical learning class while Anne wins a scholarship. One of the major similarities in these novels are that Baby and Anne were never loved properly. For
Melinda does not even like her but it the only girl that doesn’t know about the party. She wouldn’t lose her friends if she just told the truth. Most of all is that Melinda is hurting herself. “Its easier not to say anything…no body really wants to hear what you have to say”(9). Because of this she is slowly rotting away.
