Immigration Lisa Rooney SOC/315 July 28, 2012 Immigration Immigration has been an issue for many years. Immigration issues involve many different countries. The focus in the media lately has mostly been Mexico. The United States in a way is stereotyping people that come from Mexico to the US. It is said that all Mexicans are selling drugs, taking Americans jobs away and eating up all of the human services benefits. Upon an interview with this writer’s mother in law Theresa; the reason that her family came to the United States was for a better opportunity and better education for her children. The Supreme Court struck down the provisions that make it a crime for undocumented immigrant to seek work and not carry proper documentation. The court also ruled that police could not arrest people that they would just suspect does not have documentation with a warrant the supreme court did rule however in favor of the provision that is called “show me your papers!” this provision will allow police officer and is a requirement that upon any encounter with the police check the legal status of the person. The ruling in fact is a victory to the 10th amendment of all Americans that believe that and inherent rights and reasonability’s of states to defend their citizens. After all of the ruling happened there was a statement that was made by Obama “I agree with the court that individuals cannot be solely contained to verify their immigration status.” The news article then talks about that president Obama has failed on the leadership of immigration and that it is just another promise that has been broken by the president. This article in a has a perception of the president being a bad person and not taking care of things and also sends out the message that the states can do what they want to do. Who is to say that the new immagration rule of ‘show me your papers goes further that routing booking of a criminal and traffic stops. There were many places of employment that Americans really did not like to do but immigrants were glad to just have a place to work and provide for their family. The workforce was also affected after the laws passed due to the fact that they will be able to provide people with jobs and not have to worry about it being a crime to have immigrants working for them; as well as the immigrants not having to worry about being arrested while trying to make a living for their
