About 75% of high school students have tried alcohol, and about 26% of teens have had a recent episode of heavy drinking (more than 5 drinks within a couple of hours). “When the police came, they found my brother asleep on the roof. Nobody knows how he got there ”(Chbosky 105). In Stephen Chbosky’s novel “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”, teens abuse alcohol, drugs, and unsafe sex.
When a teen got a car in the 60’s, a popular hobby was to “cruise” with friends to show off a car. Teens would drive around slowly and pointlessly to look cool and sometimes, pick up girls. When George cruised, he hung out with a gang called the “Greasers.” No one wanted to mess with them, and therefore, George. When he wasn’t driving with the Greasers, George would ignore the speed limit and break many driving laws. Consequently, George got a lot of speeding tickets and had a boat load of money to pay off.
The son was acquited after a plea of self- defence but Ms Osland was found guilty with murder. After spending nine and a half years in prison for murdering she finally tasted freedom. This case was taken to the high court in 1998, where the high court reviewed this case as the ‘Battered Womens Syndrome’. Since her husband had been abusing her for 13 and a half years she could no longer take it. Her anger exploded the day she murdered her husband.
In fact, every 30 minutes, someone in this country dies in a alcohol-related crash. Every 30 minutes! How would you feel if you lost a family member to such a simple avoidable mistake? Each year drunk driving is responsible for about 25% of deaths. The Loss of loved ones; loss of important family members and loss of friends resulting from irresponsible drunk drivers on the road are tragic and permanent.
Before the drinking age was raised 46% of people said they were vomiting after drinking, but that increased to 50% after they changed the age. For kids cutting class, it went from 9% to 12%. Missing class because of a hangover jumped from 26% to 28%. Some people argue that teens are getting lower grades because of drinking, but that percentage went from 5% to 7%. Adults may also argue that drinking may cause kids to get in fights and cause trouble.
Problems arising from college drinking have risen proportionally by 7% since 1998 (Hingson 15). There is an estimated "over 1,400 student deaths, 500,000 injuries, and 600,000 assaults annually associated with excessive alcohol consumption." (Dodd 91) Through the years, binge drinking has become a major problem in Colleges and Universities throughout the United States. Binge drinking or "heavy episodic drinking" is defined as "consuming a large number of drinks
Men and women are being stoned to death, children are being raped, and Hazaras are being murdered. To make matters worse they tortured these people publicly at the football stadium. “When it was all over, when the bloodied corpses had been unceremoniously tossed into the backs of red pickup trucks-separate ones- a few men with shovels hurriedly filled the holes. A few minutes later, the teams took the field. Second half was under way” (272).
Gallo was driving drunk and hit the rookie pitcher Angel and his two friends and killed them in a horrible accident. He accepted his mistake and was given 15 years to life on each of the murder counts and six additional years for the other crimes. He was going at 65mph when he hit three people and killed them. His alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit when he crossed the red light. I feel very sorry for him because he was unlucky that night and he got caught in an accident.
Drunk driving has become one of the leading causes for deaths in America. Consuming alcohol in excess amounts impairs judgment, therefore when consumers binge drink it often leads to them choosing to get into a car and driving while intoxicated. This does not only put the consumer at risk but it dangers the other passengers in the car and anyone on the road at that given time. Every day, almost 30 people in the United States die in motor vehicle crashes that involve an alcohol-impaired driver. This amounts to one death every 48 minutes.
Drunk driving is something teenagers need to take more seriously. “Every 53 minutes on average, someone is killed in a drunk driving crash and every 90 seconds, someone is injured because of this entirely preventable crime.” For the rest of his life this guy will have to live with the agony and misery of taking the life of a nineteen year old girl just because he had a few drinks and decided he would drive. It’s something that he will think about every single day of his life until the day he dies. How would you feel if that was
