I can’t totally bring myself to agreeing with the statement as there are many different perspectives of looking at it, and the results can be interestingly diverse. It’s not only the perspectives and views that matters, also, the time period and social background to which this statement is applied to. For instance, if this statement is used in the early 19th century, girls did not attend school, instead, they stayed at home to learn household chores in preparation for her marriage after which, she will only stay at home and not to worry about anything but her daily chores, or, affluent family daughters who went to school or had private teachers, whichever way it is, she will still end up in the exact same plight. In this case, the statement above makes totally no sense at all. On the other hand, if this same statement is applied to the modern Muslim countries or Arab countries or any other countries where women are not allowed to be involved in politics or even the government, then no matter how educated or wise women are, they have no interference to anything, many nations in Middle-East & Asia which are among the most industrialised and even the richest in the world but due to social or religious factors women are kept in the dark, hence again, this statement loses its meaning. Things like these exists all over the world, and its more than what people usually think. The quote might make sense to most circumstances but not all as the entire world doesn’t resemble to a particular someone’s neighbourhood. Looking at it in another way, the statement is referring to a particular sex, it is one or the other as it did not mention boy and girl but rather boy or girl, from the way it is written. If u only educate the boys, girls learn nothing; if u only educate the girls, boys learn nothing and half the population isn’t a whole nation. Despite those
