If Life Is Sacred, Should We Ever Kill?

We are humans, and humanity is synonymous with love, care and responsible affection; the word kill is not visible in this list. It is against that we are, and he who favors such a suggestion is against human existence. However, there maybe situations where taking the life of an individual is justified and perhaps necessary for the security of civilians. For quite some time now, capital punishment has been with us. However, many countries have abolished the death penalty, stating that it is unethical. The person to whom the death penalty is given is also a human being. Life is a gift of God to us mortals; and we need to respect that gift in any case, be it for a criminal or a person suffering from a rare disease. However, there are people who do not deserve to live. They themselves have violated the sanctity of life. They do not respect life and do not have any idea of its importance. These people are murderers, and do not deserve to live. In cases such as these, capital punishment is very much justified. The issue of abortion also needs to be discussed here. One cannot have, and should not have an abortion just because one does not want that child. That would be nothing less than murder as a life is being destroyed. However abortion can be done when the life of the mother is in danger. It is better to save one life than losing two. That is why; in cases explained above, saving the life of the mother should be the doctor’s top priority. Abortion is also justified in cases, where it is absolutely certain that the baby not survive after birth because of some fatal disease. Abortion, in that case, could prevent a lot of emotional trauma for the concerned family. Euthanasia, or in layman’s terms, mercy killing is another issue that needs to be considered.
