Rhetorical Essay Michael Moore makes a clear proclamation in his excerpt “Idiot Nation” that America’s education system is drastically failing. Although America is the richest country, education has become less and less of a priority. Not only does Moore state the issue but he also explains ways we can resolve the situation and put the country back on top. Moore uses a plethora of different persuasive and rhetorical strategies to get his audience to understand his claim on the issue. One of the most unique rhetorical strategies he uses is belittling the public figures of the nation.
Glenn Beck portrays Obama in a negative way by saying he is indoctrinating American children. Glenn Beck uses pathos in his show to portray Obama as a ruler who is a manipulative and sneaky ruler. He does so by showing videos of children praising Obama’s presidency. Glenn then continues to say Obama is indoctrinating the children and students of America. He uses the word indoctrination in a negative tone creating negative pathos towards Obama.
In an attempt to make a name for himself, Coughlin set up the National Union for Justice and bashed Roosevelt, claiming he was “anti-God". Coughlin wanted what he described as a "fair wage" to be paid to those who were less well off. During this strive, Coughlin partnered up with Frances Townsend who opposed the New Deal as well. Townsend argued that the federal government should give citizens aged 60 and above $200 a month to be financed by a 2% sales tax. After Huey Long’s death, these 2 men teamed themselves up with one of his loyal followers, Gerald Smith, and these three men planned to reach out to the less fortunate of America in hopes of rallying a group large enough to enact
By Benjamin Barber, The Student and the University by Allan Bloom, and Class in America by Gregory Mantsios, the connection between the three is the idea of how education is the key to the people’s future, how it classifies them, and how it builds a nation. In Letter to America, written by David Boren, a former US Senator and president of the University of Oklahoma, quotes, “One of our greatest shortcomings as Americans is our failure to be intellectually curious about what is happening to us as people.” (Boren, 11). The problem is that education is being disregarded, and America needs to realize this as a whole. If the education in the United States is declining, the students are affected, and then the building of a great nation is disrupted. Barber, Bloom, and Mantsios all provide opinions and ideas that could solve this problem and help future generations succeed in a functional nation.
Cuts to education have to be made … Just recently the New York State Senate passed a bill to end the use of seniority as a factor in deciding which teachers get fired. According to Larry Abramson “relying on seniority alone gives the ax to young, promising teachers” which has caused upset among parents, teachers and some senators. With problems of recession, deficits and budget shortfalls affecting public and private sectors, cuts and reductions have had to be made, even within education systems and programs. As more state senates have begun deciding what to cut and how to decrease costs, more questions regarding the standing laws of seniority and whether to keep them have been raised. Essentially the rule does not benefit the school system
Taven Parker Sociology 142 ID# 005350798 They stole our jobs! “‘Let’s make sure people are educated so they can fill the jobs of the 21st century’” (President Bush, “That Good Education Might Not Be Enough”, Gosselin, pg 1). To a young, naïve individual that doesn’t understand the ways of the world quite yet, this might sound like a promising statement. Let us forget about the fact that companies and corporations want to make more money, so they outsource their working positions to other countries so they can pay them less for the same job. Let us forget about billions of dollars that American companies save by paying foreign wages rather than our minimum wage.
Leonid Fridman’s essay “America Needs its Nerds” is to inform the general American public that “nerds and geeks” is what a country needs. He feels in today’s society, intellectuals are being looked down upon, while athletes are idolized. Fridman believes what this country needs is high academic achievements and intellectualism. Throughout the essay Fridman displays examples of how knowledge is extremely important and anti-intellectual values needs to be stopped. In this essay Fridman uses antithesis, irony, allusions to support his argument.

Pick the three (3) values you feel the authors of our textbook were most inaccurate about in the chapter describing the current American values. Justify your answers. In regards to this book the author seems inaccurate when it comes to hard work/leisure, limited/extended family and tradition/change. To me the author seem inaccurate with his explanations when it comes to the area of hard work/leisure because Americans love to relax, they love vacations but like it is many cannot afford this because of their income level. It is clear that many of them work not because they are hard working by nature but because they have bills that are more than what they make, so many are bound to do more than two jobs just to meet up, and this will eventually goes to statistics as hard working but it is not, it is working to make ends meet.
Senator John McCain argues on his campaign “insurgent is working : money people would like to know how is working when the toll death is growing each day by both side the Iraq and the us military, it is all show and tell. The media flashes light on the areas where has been little effect and makes belives us the insurgent is working when is not with characteristic self-absorption, most American are not looking the big picture. Most people should ask saddam is death there was no mass of weapon destruction why are we still there and spending tax payers money because This war was based on revenge and business “in Apr. 1993, former president bush visited Kuwait to commemorate the victory over Iraqi in the Persian gulf war. During Bush’s visit, Kuwaiti authorities arrested 17 people allegedly involved in a plot to kill
