Main argument: "Idiot Nation" is an essay which devotes itself to explain important problems in the United States education system, and also about time spent and interaction with media and entertainment. He critiques the state of American education system. The government prefers to fund war efforts, and cutting educational needs. Low literacy and reading rates in the United States, in both adults and children. This is caused according to him because Americans “spend over 1,000 hours watching television, as opposed to 99 hours spent reading” Quote “Americans also spend over 1,000 hours watching television, according to Moore, as opposed to 99 hours spent reading.” "Idiot Nation" is an essay written by American filmmaker, writer, critic and activist Michael Moore. Moore is a popular figure in the American media for his work, which includes the documentaries "Fahrenheit 9/11" and "Bowling for Columbine." "Idiot Nation" appears in Moore's book "Stupid White Men...and Other Sorry Excuses for the State of the Nation!" first published in 2001. In this essay, Moore critiques the state of American education and how he believes the nation has become ignorant, an "idiot" state of mind, like he likes to call it. Moore believes that politicians, from state legislatures to the President, prefer to fund projects and war efforts while cutting funding to educational things.
