The Field of Project Management Darnel Damon-Dias INF 410 Instructor: Aaron Richardson Oct, 11, 2010 The information covered in this paper will give the reader an overview of the basic field of project management. Utilizing our text, some outside sources and my personal professional experience in hospitality management over the last fifteen years, I will give clear concise account of the many aspect of this rapidly growing industry. I am rather old-school and when I was first starting out in management I had to design a lot of my own spreadsheets etc. Now a PM can just load up a beautifully designed program and they are off and running. The hours it takes to design this stuff is grueling. This gives the PM more time to be hands on and build his or her relationships with their team. Due to the fact that most of my training has been on the job and in the real world vs. a text book I am lucky to be gifted in both the "Art" (the socioculture dimensions) and the "Science" (the technical dimensions) of project management. In order for a PM to be successful they must master both dimensions. As I stated in my introduction to this paper I gave real life examples supported by my notable sources to reveal what the field of project management entails. I can say as an experienced hands-on PM that the tools and concepts introduced by this course are transferable to the real world of project management.
