DBQ Although the needs of farmers were recognized and appealed to, agriculture was still drastically changed by technology, government policy, and economic conditions, eventually leading to a sharp decline between 1865 and 1900. This thesis will be defended by examining the impact of technology on agriculture, analyzing government policy, and studying economic conditions. With the many advancements made in technology, agriculture became more beneficial and allowed more farmers to prosper. The creation of tools such as the chilled-iron plow, the grain drill and the baling press all contributed to the domination of the Plains. However, most of these technological innovations were not within the grasp of the average farmer; only wealthy farmers could afford to own things such as the wheat harvester and the number of horses it took to pull it (Document D).
People that cooked got their food from the crops they got. When Enkidu(p.5) learns how to cook and bathe, there is a great change in his life. We can also learn about the different crops and animals cultivated in the early civilizations. As we can see in the picture in page 13, the Nile River provided wheat, barley and cattle for the natives in the area. The Tigris and Euphrates Rivers provided more things such as, peas, lentils, sheep, pigs and goats.
Colonists in New England also had to grow their own food, so they had small farms. Many people lived and worked in town, and grew crops or raised a few animals on a small farm. New Englanders did not live on large, independent farms like settlers in the middle and southern colonies because they did not have either flat land or rich soil. The Chesapeake Bay area, however, had many bodies of water flowing around, through, or near it. The proximity to all of this water affects the environment of the peninsula, causing it to have a very moderate climate.
Anne Oakley argues that we still live in a patriarchal (male dominated) society, and therefore women occupy a subordinate and dependant role within the family and wider society. Overall it could therefore be argued that rather than partners becoming more equal, women now have to carry a ‘dual burden’, whereby she is responsible for two jobs of unpaid or paid labour. Factors such as patriarchy and conforming to a gender script will lead to these divisions. It could be argued that the money management within a family has an effect on the
Furthermore they were also heavily involved in such crops as alfalfa, barley, cabbage, cotton, cucumbers, dates, grapefruit, grapes, peas, and squash, among others. Many Japanese farmers operated dairies and raise hogs until the agricultural depression of the 1920s, plus they also introduced fruits such as the strawberry, castor; and techniques often called “hot capping” and “brush covering”. By 1941 ¾ of the Japanese American population of Imperial Valley was involved in agriculture. Another great culture attributing to the Imperial Valley was Mexico. Mexican culture is a rich, complex blend of Native American, Spanish, and American traditions.
When looking at the Europeans and the Indians, their differences outweighed any similarities they had. Gender roles were a big difference for both people. European men were usually in charge of matrilineal work including social events and government issues. The Indian women took care of these roles in their tribes. Men in the colonies also were in charge of cultivation and labor work.
Unfortunately the recent report tells us that only by 2095 we can achieve the full gender equality on the workplace. However, of course, we could try and shorten that time. It is obviously important to have not only males in the business world, because this way we miss out on many opportunities that women could bring to the world, due to the different perception of values. When for example men are driven by mostly material success, women tend to build up relationships and friendly environment on the workplace. However, sometimes emotions and nurturing can affect the business in a negative manner.
Men were social ranked upon more about how hard they worked rather than financial background, but even though this happened the African slaves and Native Americans were still looked down upon as property of other men and savages, respectively. The Revolutionary war also had a major effect on the political polices in the United States. Before the war women had nearly no rights except to raise a family. After the War women
Through the different influences on the culture and lives of the Navajo they have continued to grow and influence other cultures. The Navajo people lived a pastoral life but they began to be transhumanance instead of nomadic. They grew vegetables and used the procedes from blanket sales to increase their income. In the manner of transhumanance they begn to “relay less on their animals than do nomadic
Nick 8/03/2008 Sociology Social Differentiation: Gender Social Differentiation is a normal occurrence for every man, woman, and child on the earth. It is almost impossible to socially differentiate someone without gender being a factor. Gender defines a huge part of the human perception and someone’s possible role in society. Over the years it’s progressively becoming more acceptable for women and men to “interchange roles”; but social differentiation is not necessarily all sexist or demeaning there is some undisputable facts. Such as women can not perform manual work as well as men, on the other hand, a man’s entire chemistry is different allowing him to be less emotional than a woman.
