Randy Sparks, of the New Christy Minstrels, suggested a change in name and "I chose Denver because my heart longed to live in the mountains". Denver nearly joined the Byrds but instead became part of the popular Chad Mitchell Trio, and in 1967, they recorded his composition, "Leavin' on a Jet Plane". Denver wrote it in Washington "not so much from feeling that way for someone, but from the longing of having someone to love". He soon did have someone to love, as he met Ann Martell and followed her on a skiing trip to Aspen. They were married later that year.
The wedding is off and Luke moves back to Montana. Win thought after the wedding was over, he would come rushing to her for comfort, but he’s mad that she even told him. Sondergaard was an accomplished actress, whose career was halted for 20 years thanks to the Hollywood Blacklist, but her exotic beauty was in favor of Margaret Hamilton's more traditionally "witchy" look (Turner Movie Classics). Buddy Ebsen, best known today as Jed Clampett from TV's The Beverly Hillbillies began shooting as the Tin Man, but he was hospitalized with a near-fatal reaction to the silver paint used for the character's make-up and was replaced by Jack Haley. Jack was the father of one of the producers of the film. Even the role of Judy Garland was almost given to child star Shirley Temple, but the attempt to get Shirley never went through because of contract problems. Casting was not the only problem.

Amelia Earhart is famous in history as being the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. When Earhart was growing up, women were just beginning to assert their rights to enter careers generally reserved for men. She actively documented newspaper clippings that highlighted women entering occupations normally male-oriented. Earhart first became interested in flying while attending a stunt-flying exhibition around the age of 20. She said then“ I believe that little red airplane said something to me as it swished by.” When pilot Frank Hawks, in December 1920, gave her her first ride, she said she knew then that she had to fly.
This Essay will discuss Sean Penn’s “Into The Wild”(2007) in terms of it’s romantic elements in order to determine how nineteenth century romanticism still influences modern culture. Starting by exploring the films main character as the classic American hero, I will go on to examine many of the concepts in the film which relate to the romantic notions of nineteenth century romanticism. After graduating from college protagonist, Christopher J. McCandless donates all of his savings to charity, burns all the money in his wallet and goes on a spiritual journey of self-discovery. He hitchhikes all the way to Alaska encountering several unique people along the way which cause a change in him before he ventures into the wild. We may see the main character as an existentialist to a large extent as he rids himself of his material possessions, goes against societal constructs and after studying South Africa’s turbulent history and politics, he denounces the absurdity of human behavior.
