Huffman Trucking Finance and Accounting The company growth was a result of the increased demand for carrier services between factories in the mid-west to ports on the East Coast during World War II. Today, Huffman Trucking is growing from internal sales and the acquisition of five Eastern regional carriers, which has enabled Huffman Trucking to continue to be privately held. Huffman trucking employed about 1,400 workers in its logistical hubs located in Los Angeles, California, Ohio, St. Louis, Missouri, Bayonne and New Jersey. The historical sales system includes information like Shipment schedules with dates, distance and locations of delivery, size of shipments, and payment dates by shipment. It also includes sales information about price paid, cost, margin and discount given. This system helps the sales and marketing department to have data to base decisions on when considering future interactions with customers. It clarifies for the marketing team trends that may repeat in the future and how to capitalize on profitable ones while minimizing non profitable trends. Marketing Research and Planning Huffman trucking implements a marketing research and planning system that supports a variety of areas within the marketing department. The system encompasses all past marketing research and marketing plans. “To create value for customers and to build meaningful relationships with them, marketers must first gain fresh, deep insights into what customers need and want” (Armstrong & Kotler, 2011). A good way to do this is to encrypt all data store in the databases, as well as setup a firewall and Layer 4 router. Employees can logon to the system from abroad using a smart-card over ssl connection, which provides 3 layers of security in their communications: Encryption from the ssl connection, an employee’s private smart card certificate, and the employee’s pin number to utilize the smart card. Authentication can be handled by the layer 4 router, while the firewall can fend off would be attackers. No communication from the company to its assets should be unencrypted, and should use at the least a 2048bit SSL
