If grave times call for great individuals,Huey long and Harry Hopkins were no exception.Their Reform and or involvement in the Roosevelt administration can still be felt today. Huey Long’s Childhood home of Winnfeild,Louisiana had a major affect on his future ideals.The area was somewhat an political anomaly compared to the rest of the state.It was a predominately populist area, with some socialist influence.This was most likely due to the relatively poor parish majority. It also could be due to the largely close knit rural community and little outward influence,until 1900.This changed with an increase in population,lumber mills,and commercial pressures. Now his own recorces,heuy is forced to set up shop in a one room office above his uncle’s bank.Lacking clients further forced him to return to door to door sails to suppliment his income.Although Longs practice was unsucsessful his luck started to change in 1916. His client, a local widow was suing a Winnfeild bank over lost insurence money.To his the publics supprise he won the case by painting the bank as a cold hearted,and gaining public suport.Even though the case was not a finacial sucess,It did give him prestige as a…show more content…
Simaltainiously Long was impationtly concidering his own options.At age twenty three he was legaly to young to hold most of the state offices in Louisiana,But in 1919 he found that nothing in the sttate constitution prohibited him from running for the Railroad commision office,and declared canadicy in the Northern Louisiana District. Durring this campain long used many techneacs he would use in campaighns in the futer.Some examples would be,over saturation of posters,attacking his opposition,and travaling to form a mailinlist and create strong contacts an allies.These tactics paid off when he beat the former commisioner and took his first office ate age twenty
