Young people, however, who are my generation, do not have the good relationships with their family. They don’t want to share their problems or troubles with their family because they think their family will not understand them more than their friends. For young people in Viet Nam, friends are better than family members. Therefore, my generation and my parents’ generation have different ways of thinking about family relationships in my country. The second difference is about communication.
(157). This quote proves that Calpurnia is thought of as part of the family and even though she is discriminated for being black, the children are still taught to treat her with respect and have empathy towards her feelings. Scout makes fun of Walter Cunningham Jr. for putting syrup on his food. Calpurnia tells Scout, "There's somefolks who don't eat like us," she whispered
To Kill a Mockingbird Have you ever spent a day in someone else's shoes? The way you see a person first hand is not always what they are perceived to be. Taking a look at the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, spending a day in someone's shoes to view life how they do is one of the bounteous lessons to be learned. After analyzing the title and a few characters of this bestseller, seeing through someone else's eyes will always be in the back of your mind before prejudging any human being. What about To Kill a Mockingbird?
As is true of To Kill a Mockingbird’s other moral themes, the novel’s conclusion about education is that the most important lessons are those of sympathy and understanding, and that a sympathetic, understanding approach is the best way to teach these lessons. In this way, Atticus’s ability to put himself in his children’s shoes makes him an excellent teacher, while Miss Caroline’s rigid commitment to the educational techniques that she learned in college makes her ineffective and even dangerous. Quotation 1: “Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don’t eat up people’s gardens, don’t nest in corncribs, they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.” (page 119) Explanation: This quotation is from Miss Maudie in chapter 10.
Similarly, Lairds sister also felt her mother was not trustworthy: “ My mother I felt was not to be trusted.”(Munro 50) Lairds sister was unwillingly forced by her mother, to stay in the house all day and fill countless jars with various fruits, instead of being outside in the fields with her father doing the work she loved. Narrators having trouble with their mother is one of the three comparable conflicts which appear in both short stories. Secondly, in both short stories the narrators are unwilling to pursue their given career. In the story
I assume that she wants a divorce from her husband but because of the role that society has placed on her, but she is unable to get one because she is very dependent on him. It sounds to me that she is jealous of her male friend who is looking for another wife. It was him and his situation that she was thinking of that brought her to the conclusion that she herself wants a wife. Her situation leads me to believe that during this time in history women were not meant to show signs of aggression, jealousy, or anger because it was a mans world. In Brady’s eyes a wife is a basically a slave at home who cannot have a life of her own.
The modern day novel and movie The Help shows many similarities that were portrayed in the classical novel To Kill a Mockingbird. Both The Help and To Kill a Mockingbird go into depth about the struggle humanity has been threw over the years. Although they both contain the same themes the way the authors create the situations and display the harsh reality of society’s make these two stories very different. During the depression prejudice was at its peak, with the Jim Crow laws and no rights for blacks it made it near impossible for the African American community to live a normal life. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird the rape trail of Tom Robinson vs Mayella Ewell, an African American man accused of raping a white teenage girl was held in a bias court room of Maycomb County.
Her husband left early on in Emily’s life and her mother was forced to leave her with friends or send her to day care. “…and I did not know then what I know now- the fatigue of the long day, and the lacerations of group life in the kinds of nurseries that are only parking places for children” (Olsen 707). Emily got nowhere near the amount of attention she needed. Maggie, on the other hand, was always with her mother. Maggie’s mother was also older and better suited to be a mother because she was older and more experienced however, Maggie’s father also left the family.
It is not unusual for adult children of permissive parents to feel resentful or angry toward their parents as they realize the many lessons they were not taught as children because their parents were so desperate to not make waves at any cost,by being the “cool mom”. I have listed a few Characteristics of the Permissive Parenting Style, which I call - (PPS – Permissive Parenting Style). ), I have found that in doing the research, that I, myself as a parent are guilty of some of the things below. Have few rules or standards of behavior When there are rules, they are often very inconsistent Are usually very nurturing and loving towards their kids Often seem more like a friend, rather than a parent. May use bribery such as toys, gifts and food as a means to get child to behave There are some effects to this type of parenting such as: Lack self-discipline Sometimes have poor social skills May be self-involved and demanding May feel insecure due to the lack of boundaries and guidance Since these parents have few requirements for mature behavior, children may lack skills in social settings.
“Living alone and impotent in an inimical world.” The person I choose to reflect my theory on is Shantay Fields. She is not my biological sister, but my mother has raised her since she was a baby and my mother is all she knew. So, I consider her being my biological sister since my mother raised her. I chose Shantay above others because she is an outstanding single mother to a smart, wonderful, and bright sixteen year old daughter by the name of Tatyana Fields. She had her daughter at a young age and with no help from her father, she did it all by herself.
