As a middle school runner I mainly ran 3ks which was ran on the same course as high school but was only 1.8 miles. As children develop into their teenage years their sleep cycle is disrupted. Studies have shown that teenagers are awake later than children and adults because of how a teens body releases melatonin, a hormone that concerns the humans body's sleep cycle. Changing schools beginning times may have some benefits, but the department has to consider all drawbacks. The board of education should push back school times an hour because students will improve academically and they will improve their physical health.
The current population of Earth is around 7 billion. Just 20 years ago, it was around 5 billion. All of those extra people increase the competition for jobs and for entrance to universities, thus pushing all the students to excel more than they would with a smaller population. Many of the top universities require very high grades as well as an extracurricular activity. At the top schools thousands of the top students from around the world submit requests for entry, but only a few make it.
Research shows that teens are more sexually active now than before. For example, twenty-five percent of all girls and thirty-three percent of all boys have had sex by the age of fifteen. This is a very young age, and by age seventeen the statistics have grown to 75% of all girls and eighty-six percent of all boys.
