In general, both children and adults with sickle cell anemia are more vulnerable to infections. This vulnerability is the result of spleen, the organ that filters blood, damage from sickled erythrocytes. Spleen damage prevents the organ from destroying bacteria in the blood. All individuals with the disease, especially young children, are susceptible to bacterial infections such as sepsis, pneumonia and meningitis (Bindon, 2004). Pneumococcal infections was the principal cause of death in children with sickle cell anemia until physicians began routinely giving penicillin on a preventive basis to those who are diagnosed at birth or in early infancy (Bownas, 2000).
Leg ulcers often develop after a skin infection or injury, such as a cut or puncture wound. Children with sickle cell anaemia have an increased risk of developing leg ulcers this is due to the lack of normal blood cells. Which means their leg does not receive the nutrients it needs to keep skin and surrounding tissue healthy. Delayed Growth Red blood cells provide the oxygen required for physical development. In sickle cell anemia, it is likely that a child will experience delayed growth compared with other children.
Some people with MS experience bowel problems either constipation or incontinence (constipation is more common). Bladder problems can be anything from old age and losing control to an infection, the is a range of things that can cause bladder problems, MS is not the first thing to come to mind when someone has bladder problems, and in order to diagnose it there would have to be other symptoms showing for tests to be done, otherwise doctors would be wasting time and money testing everyone for MS. Another common symptom is muscle spasms and stiffness described as spasticity which is when there is more resistance towards muscle movements, so muscles feel rigid. Stiffness is when muscles are slow to relax, and spasms are when muscles jerk in an uncontrolled way. Muscle spasms often occur after an injury, it makes the muscle feel tight and stiff, this is the most common reason for muscle spasms and many people are told to just rest it and give it time to heal, you wouldn’t assume from a muscle spasm that the person has MS, but if it kept occurring for unknown reasons you may investigate it a
Second hand smoking can also cause a trigger of asthma attacks and they can be quite severe sometimes. It also causes a lot of ear infections. Smoking while pregnant can also cause the baby to have weight issues when it is born and can have a high risk of cot death. http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/smoking-pregnant.aspx | Poverty can affect a Childs health and well being by he or she won’t be able to have a good healthy balanced diet which can lead to getting ill a lot and having a very low immune system. They may not be able to be in nursery every day as their parents may not be able to afford it which means they get less education than most children so they will be less prepared for going into school.
The name “PKD” really is a misnomer, however, in that many individuals also have significant liver disease (sometimes necessitating liver transplant) and cardiovascular disease (resulting in hypertension, strokes, aneurysms of the blood vessels of the brain and aorta, and cardiac vascular disorders). For the most part, polycystic kidney disease is caused by mutations in the PKD1, PKD, and PKHD1 genes. Mutations in these genes cause both autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease and autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease. Acquired cystic kidney disease is nonhereditary, it most often occurs in people with long-term kidney damage. A person with polycystic kidney disease will experience symptoms as a result of the damage caused by cysts (fluid-filled sacs) that develop in the kidneys.
Causes Diverticula usually develop under pressure when naturally weak places in your colon give away. This causes marble-sized pouches to protrude through the colon wall. Increased pressure in the colon can lead to breakdown of the diverticula wall, leading to an infection. Diverticulitis is mostly common in Western and Asian populations, due to insufficient amount of fiber in their diets. In Western Americans, pouches are mostly found in the sigmoid and descending colon.
CAD is usually due to atherosclerosis, which is a formation of plaque on the artery walls, causing them to narrow. Plaque is made up of cholesterol and fatty deposits that collect over time in the wall of a coronary artery. As the plaque narrows the lumen of the coronary artery, it makes it difficult for adequate quantities of blood to flow to the heart. Initially, the reduction of blood flow may not produce any symptoms. However, a gradual reduction of blood flow can cause angina and shortness of breath.
Hormone imbalance is one of the many negative aspects of this disease. Not only does PCOS affect a female’s hormones and ability to conceive a child, it also affects her overall long term health. Women with PCOS are at higher risks for health problems: heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, infertility, and diabetes. PCOS can also lead to endometrial cancer, which is caused by an absence of periods. This causes the female to produce the hormone estrogen, but not progesterone, which does not allow the uterus to shed.
Seeing a child with whooping cough can be very traumatic. Unfortunately, many infants succom to the disease. Sadly this disease could have been prevented (StÖppler). Polio is a highly contagious viral infection
It comes with both physical complications and social/mental complications for children. The physical side effects that it can be any of the following: type 2 diabetes (this is caused by the excessive insulin incretion and organ resistance to insulin), metabolic syndrome (things like gastric reflux, gallstones, and fatty liver disease), high cholesterol (which can result in a heart attack or stroke), high blood pressure, asthma, sleep disorders (causes pulmonary issues and so forth) and early puberty/menstruation which can lead to infertility when they get older (Spruijt-Metz,
