Gun control laws have become such a huge controversy in the United States due to the fact that citizens believe their Second Amendment right is being taken away from them. In my eyes, I believe that extended gun control measures should be taken to ensure that access to assault weapons should be limited to certain people. I believe one deserve a well rounded background check to see if any mental health issues are visible. I also believe you have the right to own a weapon and the government is not trying to take away your hunting rifles, personal permitted handguns, etc. They government is emphasizing more on the fully automatic weapons, explosives, armor and other things that only the military should have access to.
Gun casualties and incidents throughout the country have woken the public up from its ignorance and shown them the danger guns can pose to society (Martinez, 2013). While some people want a complete blanket ban on the ownership of guns, others wants an easier access to guns so that every person may look after their own security. Part of what makes the term gun control a very controversial topic is that it’s used in a ambiguous way that does not explain the details of the issue and the demands, apart from literally controlling guns. The two prominent sides of the debate are the groups who ask for liberal gun laws that make it easier for a person to procure guns and conversely, there are groups who want to repeal the second amendment. I personally am a strong believer that an “ideal society” should have no guns; nevertheless crime is a big problem to the citizens of our society and guns are necessary.
Democrats in no way wish to undermine the right to the second amendment but do wish to establish strong laws to who can and cannot bear a gun for example restricting guns to be issued in the hands of previous criminals, stalkers, person going under mental services, background checks for gun sales, etc. not that someone doing right in society isn’t capable of doing such harm but that crime may be lessen in society this way the right is not taken away but
Both sides have very interesting arguments that make them seem more attractive than the technique the other side uses to solve the issue. For example, gun control supporter believe that removing guns or limiting them even more than now, they could stop tragic events from happening. However, gun supporters, also have a persuading arguement. they say that if more of the right people had guns, then if something like this were to ever happen again then people would be prepared and ready to take action. While these issues become more and more a problem, people are beginning to speak up on each sides.
The Second Amendment is a law that was formulated to give the citizens of The United States of America the right to own and bear firearms. More gun control laws have been set in place as a deterrent for criminals to purchase firearms. Gun control laws are not the only way to avoid and protect criminals from purchasing firearms. Even with the gun control laws, debates, the Second Amendment and the Tiahrt Amendment, there is a lack of enforcement of these laws which has caused more violence. There also has not been a reduction in the number of criminals with guns.
Fact: Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Granted guns make it easier but no different than a car, a knife, or some other means that is the conscious choice by the decision maker. The key issues for consideration are the legal precedence, the evolution of firearms, society’s perspective and their application in today’s modern American culture. The United States of America was founded on the principal of being a sovereign nation with the ability to protect itself from others and also from within. In order to understand the implications of instituting a nationwide ban on firearms, one must understand the past, consider the actions of the present and predict the outcomes of the future.
Politicians have stated thy will introduce new laws wanting tougher background checks, forced registration, and outright banning of military looking firearms. All these types of new laws will cut down on crime and make this country a safer place. But I believe the way to protect against a bad person with a gun is a good person with a gun. First of all on the issue of it will cut down on violent crime, who are they kidding criminals rarely obey laws; studies show most criminals acquire guns through friends or theft. Adam Lanza the shooter at Newtown stole the guns he used from his mother.
People are now expecting these to happen and that is the problem. These types of things should not be expected. There are a lot of ways that are being talked about to better gun control in the United States, but some have their issues. President Trump is wanting to improve the federal background check system for guns purchased (Diaz,1). If this bill were to be passed it would hold the agencies accountable for uploading criminal history records.
The ban was essentially the same as the one currently being debated, banning magazines with a capacity higher than ten but banning only semi-automatic rifles with two or more “military-style features”. This ban is commonly cited by the pro-gun control crowd as a success and a model of what we should return to. So when trying to evaluate the effectiveness of a new assault weapon ban one should examine more closely the effects of the old version. The legislation that put in place the first ban in 1994 mandated a study be done by the Justice Department to assess its’ impact. Not only did this study state that the weapons banned were only used in a small percent of crimes even before the ban, but also "found no statistical evidence of post-ban decreases in either the number of victims per gun-homicide incident, the number of gunshot wounds per victim, or the proportion of gunshot victims with multiple wounds.
People believe by putting gun control into action it would put people in harms way. This is because they believe creating gun control laws would ban all guns, not allowing people to have self-defense weapons. However, that is not the case because gun control would just limit the amount and kind of guns people would be allowed to own. Gun control laws might help keep communities safe from the tragedies of mass
