How Research Influences Mental Disorder Management Name: Institutional: Research in mental health is the study of the brain, behavior and severe mental disorders. It results in improved understanding of the conditions in question, the treatment thereof, prevention and eventual cure of severe brain disorders. The research subjects used are entitled to human rights such that they can choose whether they want to get involved in the research or not. It must be established beforehand whether they are in a capacity to consent before their consent can be validated. (Halter, 2009) The subjects are allowed the freedom to pull out from their involvement in an ongoing research without the risk of prejudice against them. Research Advances that are made are usually published in leading medical journals including but not limited to The American Journal of Psychiatry, Psychiatric Services, Biological Psychiatry, Archives of General Psychiatry and Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Research tends to be very expensive and National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) currently receives partial funding from the federal government in its various agencies. For example, National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) directs its federal funds to research in severe mental illnesses. Agency for Health care Research attends to the issue of healthcare quality. Other agencies also contribute by funding other different research organs and topics. The Child and Adolescent Center caters for the needs of mental cases in the young. This helps in research of how mental conditions develop and how they can be monitored and managed in the young. Research in the mental field cannot be understated. It must be supported if the affected are to have a meaningful life in spite of their mental disorders. References Halter, E. M. (2009). Foundations of
