How might you help others feel like they are part of a team Team COM 516 02-28, 2013 June Fuller How might you help others feel like they are part of a team This topic really touches home with me because I coach football and baseball at the High School I work at. My job as a coach is not only to build winning teams, but also to make sure every team member has a role within the team. Coaching a sport allows me the opportunity to experience a wide range of personalities and talent levels. No one personality or talent level should be favored over the other. Even the players with the least amount of athletic ability can play a vital role in a team. Two young men who are currently on my baseball team serve as a great example. The first young man came to me before the season asking could he try out for the team. My first instinct was to jokingly say you’re not a baseball player (D’O’Brian,1994). Then I told him in a direct answer, absolutely (D’O’Brian,1994). To make a long story short, he was not the most skilled baseball player but his enthusiasm far exceeded his athletic short comings. This young man is at every practice and has become a leader at those practices. Another young man at my school has been in a wheelchair since childhood. He was born with a rare disease that left him in this unimaginable shape. He came to me before the season asking could he be my assistant. His presence has made a huge impact on me as well as my team. He has become an inspiration to all of us and in return we have made him feel like a true team member.
