Some different ways that a roman citizen could be able to get political influence was bribery, marrying into a family with power or money, making alliances or conspiracy, success in the military, political intimidation. Also, a successful politician had to know how to talk to plebeians but also be able to get them on their side. Back in the Late Republic, a way to gain political influence was by marriage. Marrying a person who has money and power in their family will get that person more ties to government. When you marry someone who already has power or money, you will become as powerful as they are with your combined wealth.
The issue of the aristocracy must be addressed first; their influence should not be underestimated, coming from high social backgrounds and many of which held a position in government they generally had at least some form of power, either socially or with direct influence within parliament. It was for these reasons that the aristocracy was able to help Isabella secure her throne. This of course also proves the strength of the aristocracy and the potential problem they could be to control; this view is shared by McClive describing them as “necessary allies.”[1]Kamen also agrees with this point acknowledging them as potentially a very serious threat to the monarchy, but does go on to state that the reason for success with the aristocracy was the rivalry between themselves which stopped them from being so effective. Despite the problem they could create, Isabella and Ferdinand did resist them, without a fixed capital their influence was “tamed” through only a few at a time being able to consolidate with the Monarchs. It also stopped them converging together to form a stronger force that would be able to pressure them.
If a large amount of this money was given to the church before the Templars took over, that money could then be acquired by the Templars. This could explain how the Templars funded a certain campaign, or where they drew allegiance to. This is a hypothetical situation, but a situation possible with more evidence such as this obituary. By other means, similar to trials of ordeals, entry into a necrology could be used as a political statement in supporting a particular group or challenging a rival. It can be likened to the lobbying process of 20th century politics in that the contribution of wealth to an organization is done to further one's one interests and enterprises.
There is evidence to suggest that when the marriage between Mary and Phillip was proposed in 1553 people were fearful it would lead to Spanish domination. Mary was a woman and so people believed that as a man Phillip would be able to dominate her decisions. Mary received a petition against it and some historians suggest it was the cause of Wyatts rebellion. There was a great fear that Engand would be dragged into the Hapsburg-Valois wars which would drain England economically. However in 1553 when Mary proposed the marriage treaty England was economically drained and therefore vulnerable.
Each state has party meetings at which a nominee is selected to go to the national convention where the official candidate is selected. This could be improved by deliberately trying to get more people involved in the state nomination process. In this way the people can become more involved in choosing the nominee. If the nominee is more popular the Electoral College will be less likely to end up selecting the candidate with the least approval since the candidate will be someone who the people already have chosen. So one interesting possibility for Electoral College reform is to educate the voters more clearly and involve them in the process earlier on.
TERM LIMITS FOR CONGRESS I believe that term limits should be placed on our Congressmen and women because it would allow for a more efficient Congress. The current Congress is in shambles, a dismal failure and is in desperate need of new ideas, procedures, and influence. With term limits in place, Congress will be more responsible toward their constituents because they themselves will soon be constituents. They will have to live under and abide by the laws they created while in office. They’ll have less time in office to develop money ties to lobbyists and other special interest groups, thereby weakening the threat of lobbyists being able to influence legislation.
Joan inspired the French and stirred in them a feeling of nationalism. This rise in nationalism also contributed to the strengthening of the central monarchy in France. In 1429, Charles VI's son was crowned Charles VII. He proceeded to consolidate the country and his power. In July of 1453 the last battle of the Hundred Years War took place at Castillon, the same year that Constantinople finally fell to the Ottomans and the Byzantine Empire ended.
When Richard was captured on his way home by the Holy Roman Empire, raised to pay for his ransom, and secure his release by using her considerable influence. And last, Eleanor completed her last Royal Duty at the age of seventy-seven. She undertook a 1,000 mile-tour, attended her affairs, settled disputes, made laws, granted charters, and brought order to people. In conclusion to this essay I have explained to you how Eleanor was a powerful and strong leader, and how she proved to all people that there is no such thing as a “weaker sex”. Eleanor should always be remembered by us as one of the most influential women in
Many became work oriented, getting married later on. The American viewpoint is closely tied to this concept, Americans have also pushed marriage back, in order to complete an advanced education, and climb the corporate ladder, many feel that marriage would hold them back from those accomplishments. Another change from the Renaissance, and arguably the most notable change, was humanism. This was not the form of humanism that many today are familiar with, but it was an educational stance based on greek and Roman literature. The new form of learning inspired many philosophers such as Isaac Newton and artist like Leonardo da
Without any support of politicians it would have been very difficult to obtain and keep the different authorization needed. Therfore as an example when the « Green Pope » (Minor Keith UFC chairman) had any kind of request such as construction permits he just had to ask for. In 1911 UFC overcame the political limit by being implicated in a conspiracy in order to solve some problem that could have hampered UFC expansion. Chiquita inherited the strong political influence of UFC but started to act with more diplomacy by using lobbying and political tools to increase pressure on international relationships. Chiquita used legal political instruments to complain about discriminatory framework of the EU regime.
