An obvious thing they have in common is a dislike for one another that is stemmed from their ‘political rivalry’. These examples caused conflict that made their differences stand out even more. The boys being in the same age category and sharing a couple of views on living strategies didn’t cover up just how diverse they were. The first difference between them was how Jack had no respect for the rules the other boys agreed on. As the novel progressed Jack became more savage and in-humane while Ralph tried to keep the innocence he’ll never get back.
Although he’s a stubborn person, he can also be considered a pushover. For example, as Jack bullied Piggy, he just stood by and watched rather than helped him out. Also, as they were trying to hunt for the beast, Ralph got carried away along with the other boys and started acting wildly. When it came to defending his power, Ralph wasn’t able to convince everyone else. As Jack defied him, all he could say was “I’m the chief” or “I have the conch”.
Scout originally did not have the skill to empathize, but thanks to Atticus, earns it. Had Scout not honed in on this skill, the end of the book, and the message would have been affected. Bob Ewell is a very unempathetic man and did not teach his children the skill. Bob Ewell is so unempathetic, that in fact in the novel, he was referred to as a low down skunk. His children particularly Mayella, have been affected by this lack of empathy, and have developed it as well.
The boys are lured (and later coerced) into becoming part of Jack's tribe. I understand this, too. Even Simon's death is not too much for me to understand. It is a dark, stormy night, and the boys are caught up in a kind of beast-hunting frenzy when they see a creature crawling toward them. I do not like it, but I kind of understand it.
Once the Victim feels belittled, the line separating teasing and bullying becomes crossed. The victim of the bullying feels as if they are too weak to answer back. Those targeted by a large group may feel even more powerless as well. When Piggy was trying to get attention from a group of boys in order to give them important information, one of them yelled "Shut up!" at him, to which "Piggy wilted"(Golding 58).
Mr. Marsden also threatened and assaulted Rob Jr. by telling him "If you leave, you will be thrown into the eternal fires of Hell, and you will not be allowed back." The statement made by Mr. Marsden can show attempted assault and battery, there is also the possibility of charging, false imprisonment and intentional infliction of emotional distress on a fifteen-year old child. Furthermore, Mr. Marsden caused emotional distress on Rob Sr. and Bunny. The church held Rob Jr., against his parents will, and Rob Jr. is still a minor under state laws. Because of the state of mind of Rob Jr., he did not know whom to believe, he was torn between the wraths of hell and his parents.
Keller knew how Paul’s music would sound like and crushed Paul’s smugness about his ability, which was less accomplished than he believed. Paul thought of it as an insult and a waste of his time, as reflected by his strong opinion expressed with frustration to his father after the first lesson that, “He practically broke my arm… He’s a sadist,” when he complained to his parents. Knowing that Paul was an arrogant teenager who had been praised too much, Keller tried to teach him more than just the mastery of the piano, but how his attitude should be. Although Paul did not receive Keller’s message, later on he realized how much Keller had taught
In the novel ‘Lord of the Flies’ peace was not possible for the boys on the island for multiple reasons. This was mainly because of the conflict between Ralph and Jack, and the great contrast in their leadership styles. Ralph lead in a fair democratic while Jack’s leadership style is a polar opposite of Ralph’s; He is evil and unfair and treats the littluns and Piggy especially bad. From the beginning Jack tries to establish himself as the leader, When Ralph suggests they should have a chief Jack says” I ought to be chief...because I’m chapter chorister and head boy I can sing C sharp” (29). Jacks priorities are very different to Ralph, he feels like doing, later, to take power away from Ralph and lastly, to get rid of anyone who opposes him.
Doodle's big brother's fear of being made fun of led him to being ashamed of his little brother. This subsequently led to him to teach Doodle how to walk. He also did not want to have a brother that could not do anything. Doodle's brother only helped Doodle for his own reasons and for himself. Doodle's brother was cruel.
This action leads to him being considered a tragic hero. Creon’s human flaw of arrogance causes him to ignore reasoning and advice and listen only to his own thoughts. He states, "My voice is the one voice giving orders in this city". He is afraid to go back on his word because it will hurt his pride and he is afraid that it will cause him to lose power with his subjects. This action causes him to lose everyone that he loves.
