DURO1 NAME PROF CLASS 18 September 2014 How House of Sand and Fog relate to Hegel’s theory In the film House of Sand and Fog, Hegel’s idea of tragedy of two is quite evident. The film derived from a novel by the American writer Andre Dubus III in which the main characters engage in a legal struggle over possession of a house. The house functions as a symbol of membership in American society and the combatants -- an immigrant Iranian colonel and a woman recovering from drug addiction -- have more than money at stake in their fight to own a home to which each has a legal right. Behrani was a hero to his family. He did everything he could to secure a bright future for him and his family. While Mr. Behrani was working low paying jobs he was on a constant look out for an opportunity to take a step forward within the American society. What’s something that can symbolize Americanism than home ownership? Behrani was almost out of money and he knew that he had to move fast. Then the opportunity came along when a seize home was listed for auction in his area. Mr. Behrani attended the auction and ended winning the property for a third of what the house was worth, Now Mr. Behrani calculated that he would live in the home with his family renovate the home then cash out. Selling the home for a profit would not only allow Mr. Behrani to finance his son’s education at the same time will allow him to build a nice villa similar to the one he and his family owned back in Iran, in addition will be the foundation for rebuilding the lavish lifestyle he and his family were accustom to.
