In this story sacrifice is the main theme because Katniss sacrifices her life for her family. Katniss takes her sister Prim’s place in games. When Prim was chosen, Katniss said “I volunteer as a tribue”(12). She didn’t want her sister to go through the obstacles that she would have to go through in the hunger games. She knew her sister would die and because of her love for her, she decided to take her place as District 12’s new tribute.
Wanting to be “humanitarian”, Menegele insisted that mothers would die along side their children, “it would not be humanitarian to send a child to the ovens without permitting the mother to be there to witness the child’s death” (Nomberg-Przytyk 69). The author addresses the concept of
Chapter 5: Grace is only 16 years old, a child, but yet she was sent to die. The People of the Hills, the people she grew up with, believed that her death would help ending the brutal era of Keran Berj and therefore she had no choice but to go face her destiny. Chapter 6: Grace thinks about the mission she was given by the People. She was raised to be a suicide bomber, an Angel, and her target was the Minister of Culture. The People told her that her death would be painless but Grace found it hard to believe.
He gives her a mission and tells her that if she succeeds, she will officially be a striker. West goes to the alt’s house and waits. She finally sees the other girl on the street and throws a knife at her which kills her. She panics and runs away, leaving the corps to lay there. She decides to tell herself that with each strike, she won’t be killing someone as much as she’ll be letting someone else live.
Sue Rodriguez a women who fought years to show the world that voluntary euthanasia for a person who is suffering and is in pain, is the right thing to do as everyone has there own body and due to human rights people have the right to do what they want with there body even if it is there own personal choice of wanting to end there own life. Sue did not win her case, therefore in 1994 she took her own life, with the help of an anonymous physician. In order to "die with dignity" she wanted the guarantee of a quick death with a minimum of misery" by being given "a fatal injection when she decided the quality of her life had deteriorated beyond an acceptable degree. Sue Rodriguez, a women which was fighting a deadly disease, wanted to fight for the rights to die, to also help others which didn't have the strength anymore to win for voluntary euthanasia, Sue Rodriguez had the chance to take her own life, it was hers and she was able to end it herself but instead she wanted to fight for the legal rights of not only her but other people, she wanted to make a difference to make euthanasia legal, instead of Sue ending her own life she wanted people which were close to death to have a choice to end there own life especially if they were deeply suffering being forced to stay alive by people around them. She was the one voice that spoke for thousands of people, (the voice for all people) dealing with their own daily battles of trying to live when really all they wanted was to end their life peacefully they wanted the right to die but they didn't have a choice due to some legal
At the end of the book Oly kills Ms. Lick and then turns around and kills herself because she couldn’t deal with life on life’s terms. Not to mention the fact that she was keeping this huge secret away from her estranged daughter who doesn’t even know Oly is her mother. In my opinion the ending would have been better if it were written something like this…… Olympia is in the locker room and she’s already shot Ms. Lick but before the vapors have a chance to reach her and before she pulls the trigger on herself, she gets a sudden burst of courage thinking about all the times growing up when she took the easy way out and decides to tell Miranda the truth if it’s the last thing she does and she wants to tell her from her own mouth. She hurries and escapes the locker room and off the fire escape has a hard time because of her hunched back but she makes it all the way back to the apartment where she gets rid of the gun by throwing it into the garbage disposal outside her house. Oly goes back into her apartment and wraps herself up in a blanket, she spews some crumpled up Kleenex on the floor and night stand by her bed to give the impression that she’s been sick and in bed all day for when the police come to question her.
I couldn’t answer to my conscience if I did”(O’Connor, 9). But actually this is just an excuse of her to visit some friends in east Tennessee. This seemingly trivial warning is also used as foreshadowing to set up a big irony: it is the grandmother that leads the whole family to the Misfit. The ostensible kindness is a proof of her selfishness. When the Misfit kills her family one by one, she never begs the criminal to spare the life of her children.
Confronting a callous murderer, the thirteen-year-old Amish girl begged him to "shoot me first and let the little ones go." And before she was ruthlessly shot, she had forgiveness in her heart and even prayed for him. What is even more amazing is that at the same day, the Amish community decided to take care of the murderer’s wife, providing the things she needs. After studying Amish’s culture, it is not difficult to notice the reason why they are so special and peculiar from others. It is because of their religion, belief and faith in
This will help them get sponsors, which can save their lives. When they get in the games, Katniss runs away from the crowd where a killing spree is occurring. She heads straight to the forest and later on finds that a young girl named Rue from district 11 is following her. They become allies after that. Katniss and Rue destroy the career tributes food supply and get someone from district 1 to die in the process.
Our parents persecuted us, but we didn’t care. No one could keep us apart unless they killed us. I guess I should’ve been careful with what I wished for. After three years of the hatred coming from our families, we decided to run. We would run as far as we could with out being detected.
