Characters in the Hunger Games sacrificed their lives for others out of necessity. During the Reaping, a country wide event where each District gives up children (ages 12-18) to fight to death in an arena, Katniss sacrifices her own life for her sister Prim. During the Reaping pick for the 74th Hunger Games in District 12’s town square, Katniss’s sister, Prim, gets picked as the female tribute. As Katniss realized what happened when Prim’s name was picked, she volunteered for her in an instant heartbeat. Without delay, Katniss made the decision to sacrifice her life and family for the love of her sister. Katniss knew that Prim would be assassinated the first minute because of her hatred of weapons, blood, and terrifying people.
