Although he did not initiate the start of the Movement, the Montgomery Bus Boycott in 1955, he got involved and helped them greatly with their cause. King’s charisma was very important to the Civil Rights Movement as he was able to deliver the point clearly and in a way that everyone understood him. King took part in various different campaigns such as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored (sic) People (NAACP), Montgomery Improvement Association (MIA), and Southern Christian
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., an activist for not just the African American community, but for all people has a philosophy that stands out amongst many. His works of humanity work and standing for justice of the segregated people of the African American community in the United States in 1955 to many years are known all over the world. In 1955 was the start of the protests against discrimination and segregation against the African American communities especially down south. He led the black boycott in 1955-1956 of segregated city bus lines and in 1956 got a major victory and was known as a civil-rights leader when Montgomery buses began to operate on a desegregated basis. His philosophy of non- violence action plays a big role on how people should solve problems.
Throughout his career, King was involved in a number of campaigns including Birmingham 1963, Selma 1965 and the Meredith March 1966, some of which were more successful than others. King was criticised for a number of his campaigns, such as Albany 1961, Birmingham 1963, and Chicago 1966, these criticisms were due to the methods used, or the outcome of the campaigns. Two campaigns which stand out as great successes are the Montgomery Bus Boycott, 1955 and the March on Washington, 1963. The Montgomery Bus Boycott of 1955 was King’s first major success in his career. In an attempt to desegregate buses throughout the south, a challenge against segregation was needed.
I believe the Montgomery bus boycott was the most important event in the 1950s -1960s in changing the civil rights for African-Americans, because this event gained internationally attention. On the 1st of December 1955 a white man requested for Rosa Parks’ seat however she refused as it seemed unreasonable. Leading her to be arrested, this act was very important because it went against the Jim Crow which was created to force segregation in public school systems, kept many African-Americans from moving out of segregated neighbourhoods and often made it difficult for African-Americans to vote. Overall it was very unfair to the black community, as a result the black community in Alabama started a non-violent boycott of the buses, leaving buses only half full this had a major financial impact on bus companies as it was the black community who used buses the most and the event was lead by Martin Luther King. This event was important because it gained international attention which put pressure on the different structures of the American government to make changes, and finally in 1965 the Supreme Court ruled that segregation on buses was illegal.
I believe that the contribution of Martin Luther King was huge for the Civil Rights Campaign, however many important campaigners were overshadowed by King who possibly got too much credit when it was due elsewhere. King had a giant effect on the progress of the advancement of black civil rights. The first major part he played in improving the social standing of black civilians was in his role governing the Montgomery Bus Boycott between 1955 and 1956. This boycott aimed to achieve, which it eventually did, the desegregation of public buses, which was partly initiated by Rosa Parks refusing to give up her seat for a white man when asked to do so, who was then arrested. King was invited to lead the body which was coordinating the boycott, the Montgomery Improvement Association, so he was not responsible for creating and starting off this successful campaign, however his alluring personality and leadership skills helped motivate the campaign brilliantly.
It took a very charismatic and influential figure to organise this and keep it going for a whole year, as it was very inconvenient for black people at the time. However, even after the victory that came after the bus boycott, King would not settle. He set up the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. He also led a variety of campaigns, for example the marches on Washington and Birmingham. The speeches that King made were very emotive, and encouraged many white Americans to start supporting the campaign.

Obviously he was the leader of the Civil Rights movement as well He was a leader for the group called Montgomery Improvement Association. He was appointed the president of the Montgomery Improvement Association which was created during the boycott and he became a prominent leader of the boycott - even driving some of the black community to work as the buses had been boycotted. These groups gained MLK a lot of popularity in the 1960’s.

Martin Luther King Jr was born on January 13, 1929. Martin Luther King Jr had a huge impact, on the life of many Americans. Martin Luther King Jr also helped to change the way many of Americans thought of African Americans. Before Martin Luther King Jr came along African Americans were almost not even considered human if was almost as if they were animals, African Americans would get publicly beat just for talking to a white a person. Martin Luther King Jr impacted America a lot and I can honestly say that it was definitely for the better, if Martin Luther King Jr had never been born I cannot even imagine what the world would be like.
