Overall, I am more convinced by Koch’s essay than Bruck’s essay just because it appeals to me on a more emotional level, and causes me to want to keep the death penalty. Although I admire that Bruck tried to appeal to the audience in a more intellectual tone, I still feel that his essay was lacking, and will not adequately convince the reader to vote against the death
What we don’t think about is the fact that most medical and quite a few technological advancements evolved because of war. Another fact is that, although it’s hard to believe, but war makes countries use their resources better, or at least find better ways to use them. Think about it, most countries try to win wars and to do that, you need to be better than the people that you are fighting, so we use our resources better. Another thing, without war, we might not have certain medical advancements at our disposal; such as penicillin, hydrogen peroxide, and antiseptics. Life would be a lot harder if these things had never been created, wouldn’t it?

Many people say that he closed down the monasteries because of money, corruption and power however there are many other reasons but these are the three main reasons why he closed down the monasteries. In my opinion it is a sick cycle, which enviably will reduce the standard of living in the United States. The individuals seeking to pay less for their purchases don’t realize the effect it has on the surrounding economy, including reduced wages, reduced community support, reduced business opportunity, reduced land values, reduced tax base, and ultimately lower standard and quality of living for most members of the community. I personally think that Wal-Mart is a modern day monopoly. It kills the competition. This is harmful for our economy.
He wanted them to be able to fix their problems themselves and let the government do more important jobs and have to worry about them less. He wanted them to become strong, independent people, but when America’s situation was as bad as it was nothing the people did could get them out of that situation. The government needed to step in and help them get out of the hole because they were too far in to pull themselves out. This concept had good intentions, but failed miserably. FDR’s Liberal ideas set new ground rules for the coming presidents to follow and his spirit and work ethic were going to be the top bar the next Presidents would have to compete with, even still
However, the ruling class enacted to squeeze and exploit with their political power, which sharpened the contradiction and resulted in the uprisings. The nobles had to make concessions to increase the salaries and reduce the land rent. Due to most of the nobles’ income was from land, it caused the tremendous decrease of the income and put their finance into a difficult situation. The suzerainty of the nobles was lowered while merchants and financiers took the opportunities to grab more money and become the main decision maker in the government. It weakened the political power of the original ruling class.
“Where justice is denied, where poverty is enforced, and where any one class is made to feel that society is an organized conspiracy to oppress, rob and degrade them; neither persons nor property will be safe” (Frederick Douglass). Poverty is a multifaceted dilemma that is facing our world today causing other issues in society within its existence. The affect that poverty has on the public is negative. This includes numerous problems such as crime, starvation, drug use, health issues and racism. Getting a better understanding of these problems could increase the awareness of poverty and prevent future development of this epidemic.
On one hand, if we forego the idea of society as a whole and focus simply on the idea of helping ourselves, like the banks in The Grapes of Wrath, we will result in the destruction of the lower and middle classes, ultimately leading to depression, followed by revolution. This was proven through the fall of the communist Soviet Union, when the people eventually became tired of living in poverty and demanded change. Their failure to provide a reason for people to push themselves to excel was ultimately their demise. On the other hand, if we are to constantly help the needy and forget about the responsibilities that we have to ourselves, we not only hurt ourselves by always giving away the things that we have worked for but we also endanger the needy. If they are constantly provided for, how are the less fortunate going to learn to provide for themselves and why would they be motivated to do
A solution to this problem would be, take out all of the soldiers that are left in Iraq and let the Iraqi government solve their own problems. This issue of having weapons of mass destruction being in possession in Iraq has changed position because soldiers were used to stop the terrorists by Iraq. If the American government is unsure and thinks it is unsafe in having soldiers leaving Iraq, then they should do random immediate transports to Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Israel. They should
