What exactly defines a sport? Is a sport something that only requires a ball to play, or can it consist of danger and excitement? Horseback riding is filled with danger and unpredictable happenings. Football is well known as being this intense, exciting sport. As an avid horseback rider, I feel horseback riding should be viewed as a respectable sport, just like football is considered to be. Horseback riding and football are two sports that consist of a large amount of contact, whether it is player on player contact or rider on ground contact. Falling off a horse isn’t exactly a pleasurable thing and neither is being tackled to the ground by an angry, padded, spandex wearing jock. With that said, including yourself in a sport can be quite dangerous. One should always be aware of certain dangers that may occur while participating. Many dangerous things that occur are those least expected. Dangers such as falling and breaking bones, getting stepped on or even receiving a concussion are all possibilities thanks to some pretty hardcore sports; horseback riding and football. For example, while making a dash for a touch down one might not see this huge spandex wearing jock coming at them from the side. This guy is about to jump on them like a puma. Last thing they know, they’re eating a nice mouthful of grass, yum. While horseback riding, one is riding around having a great time. The horse makes a sudden unpredictable movement and then BAM; they’re on the ground wondering what the heck happened. These examples just go to show how widely dangerous both sports can be. Nobody wants any kind of major injury, but that is the risk someone is willing to take in order to do what they love. Having physical strength in terms of muscle takes time to build up. How else would you expect to handle an animal three times your size, or for that matter, a tall, crazed football
