Hollywood is Invading China America plays a significant role in economy, politics, and culture in the world. It dominates our world by its superpower. Mark Rice-Oxley, a correspondent for the Christian Science Monitor, describes Americanization by “From music to media, film to fast food, language to literature and sport, the American idea is spreading inexorably, not unlike the influence of empires that preceded it” (163). He illustrates how American cultural imperialism invades and spreads around the world by American superpower. China is no exception to the effects of Americanization since economic reforms. America exports its culture to China by advanced media, especially by Hollywood movies. Hollywood movies are produced by advanced technology, excellent super stars, and attractive story design. In addition, Hollywood movies offer diversity, which uses different backgrounds from other countries, but it sometimes changes original countries’ value and adds American culture into the movie. The American movie industry makes many Chinese myths into movies with American imagination and culture such as “Kungfu Panda”. They just keep Chinese images in movie and change the Chinese spirit to American heroism. They also add many Chinese elements to attract more Chinese audience because China is the biggest potential movie market for Hollywood movies, which result more and more audiences prefer to watch Hollywood acting movies rather than Chinese movies. In recent years, a Hollywood movie like “Iron Man” has a Chinese version, which adds two famous actors in the movie for Chinese audiences. Moreover, Hollywood movies are defined as “big movies” and become a fashion in China. Audiences’ first choice is Hollywood movies even though it needs to pay a higher price than local movies.
