On December 7, 1941, the Empire of Japan ordered the Japanese Air Force to launch and engage the American sailors and civilians during a surprise air raid at Naval Base, Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. With the heavy assault lasting at most a little more than two hours the damage and casualty count seemed devastating. More than 2,400 Americans were killed during the onslaught, at least twenty-one ships had either been sunk or damaged due to the missile explosions and strafing enemy gunfire; more than 188 U.S. aircraft destroyed as well at the nearby airfield. The attack on Pearl Harbor outraged nearly the entire American nation to the point where that the U.S. unwittingly abandoned its own policy of isolationism and declared war on Japan the following day -- this instance here officially brought the United States into World War II.…show more content…
The Japanese wanted to continue their uprising and immersive expansion within Asia but the United States had placed an extremely and highly enforced restrictive embargo on Japan in the hopes of curbing the country's own aggression towards other countries and delaying its idealistic beliefs.
