Crusades effected the English people politically, economically, and by exposing the Englishmen to new cultures. The Crusades had a significant influence in Europe in general, not just English people. At the time, the continent was united under a powerful Pope, but by the end of the 14th century, centralized bureaucracies (which have been defined as the foundation of the modern nation state) was flourishing in England, France, Spain, and other countries, due to the tyrannical dominance of the church during the Crusades. The Crusader society in the Kingdom of Jerusalem was also characterized by a culture of innovation, including political structures, governance, and taxation. The need to raise, transport, and supply the large armies led to a flourishing of trade throughout Europe.

Great changes in the use and development of navigation tactics and method occurred during 600 C.E to 1750 C.E that changed oversea trade in the Indian Ocean dramatically. The regions had to continue to improve their technology throughout the ages to sail the Indian oceans. For example the dhow was a very important advanced ship which was used to import and export people and products. The printing press, by Gutenberg, has grown immensely since the 15th century. It went from being in a few towns in present day Germany to almost all over Europe in a matter of 30 years (Doc. 2). Although the printing press was such a revolutionary achievement, the most important consequences were the dissemination of the words and ideas of the people and educating more citizens. Also it began to stir up conflicts among the beliefs of the churches over time.
The Renaissance was a time of great intellectual change and achievement. Beginning in Florence, this cultural movement later spread throughout Europe. The Renaissance profoundly affected European beliefs; it was one of the most significant periods of growth and progress in Western Europe and has been described by Wilde as “ending the medieval era and heralding the start of the modern age.” A number of factors contributed to the conditions which enabled the Renaissance to take place and must be considered in any broad analysis of causes. At the time the growth of the economy and trade enabled ideas to spread throughout Europe. Additionally the reintroduction of classical works encouraged the search for forgotten knowledge, whilst the creation of the printing press enabled works to be mass produced and allowed knowledge to spread effectively.
The Medici family also had an impact in the history of the Catholic Church with four Popes from the Medici heritage. Along with the family’s political stature and religious role, it too was a great supporter of the arts and architecture in Florence and Italy (“Medici, House” 2). As one of the greatest influential powers of the Renaissance Era, the Medici family played a very big part in political control, religious influence, and artistic patronage in European society. Over time, the family gained authority slowly until they were able to found the Medici Bank. The family’s wealth and influence was initially derived from the family’s textile trade guided by the Arte della Lana, a wool guild during the late Middle Ages and Renaissance in Florence.

During his fourteen years of chancellorship Wolsey exercised considerable influence over Henry VIII's domestic policy during the years 1515 to 1529, involving himself in economic, legal and church affairs. Wolsey was either loved or hated for his wealth, position and manner particularly by the nobility. Some of his domestic policies were relatively successful with some failures, but some such as Finances had an almost equal amount of failures and successes. However, many historians argue that his policies were limited due to Henry’s ambitions in Europe. One aspect that Wolsey did have great impact was justice, with him introducing many new ideas.
