Diggs University of Phoenix A Phenomenological Study; African American Male Leaders; A Hip Hop Perspective This study is not concerned with how poorly African Americans in the United States are doing economically. However, rather than look at the usual indicators to assess the levels of poverty, I want to look at the role of hip hop in transforming black ideology into participating in mainstream corporate America. I am interested in looking at the career trajectories of several hip hop moguls who transitioned from artists to businessmen with wide ranging portfolios. This transition, when it occurred ideologically, and its relationship to hip-hop will be the focus of this Phenomenological study. Hip hop moguls, are highly successful African American businessmen. They have earned their success through retail marketing and successful leadership. They are influenced by products and not informed about the business. Through a phenomenological research the successful business skills and leadership skills of hip hop moguls can be explored. A study can determine if youths are interested in the fame, money or success. If youths are exposed to the business entities of hip hop as opposed to the music product of gangster rap, the study could indicate whether they would divert their emphasis from the product to the business and become a part of mainstream
