Differences and similarities between levels High School and college are alike in numerous ways, but they are also very different. They are both educational institutions which help people achieve greater intelligence but different in certain factors. High school is mandatory and free if you attend a public school, otherwise it will cost you while college is both voluntary and expensive. In high school, students are guided for responsibilities they have and students are corrected if they are out of line. Freedom is the main difference between high school and college but, classes, teachers, social aspects and costs are the major ways that college differs from high school.
For example, while in high school good homework grades are able to raise your overall grade if you did not do well on tests, in college the grades in tests and major papers (essays, projects, and researches) are the most important things that provide most of the course grade. Also, in high school if someone has received the grade of D and higher then they are able to pass the course but in college someone can graduate only if their average is same or above their departmental standard. Second, there are many differences in classes between these two institutions. Although in high school for students listening is sometimes more than enough however in college students should review class notes and text material regularly and ask for information from professor teaching assistance tutoring services and even from other students. Additionally, students in high school are provided with textbooks for free, whereas in college students need to buy textbooks and class materials.
There are thousands of teaching styles professors and teachers use. Each person is different and therefore has their own idea of what their class will respond to and learn from. In college, teachers often times focus on their strengths, whether it be lecturing or using personal experience. While high school the majority of the learning was very scripted, impersonal, and bland. Many students fell in love with subject in college that they may have disliked in high school.
Many college students go into financial debt trying to obtain the high cost of college tuition, because of this more college students are becoming drop outs after their first year of college. In other words, college requires several challenges that many people aren’t ready to take on. With an enormous amount of undergraduates attending community colleges, society as a whole should want the colleges to be in the best conditions to educate our future members of society. However, most community colleges are failing to provide the best conditions possible for their students. Community colleges are failing to properly educate their students, and because education is a valuable aspect of the American society, community colleges should be refined to produce knowledgeable citizens of the United States of America. For example, many of us weren’t really use to studying during high school, mainly because it was so unchallenging. But through college you are going to have to make some changes in your life. You are going to take those classes that require memorizing long formulas and theories, and that will take more of your time. During the process of college you are going to have to learn how to take care of yourself regardless of your parent’s being there for you or not. Responsibility will play a big role during this time of your life.

Most students, who struggle to keep up with their payments, eventually get a job. Freshmen who are in need should look for campus jobs that can both bring educational and financial benefits to them, a job from which they learn something and a job from which they receive a pay. However freshmen that need the money more should stick to jobs that just pay them, if they are not able to find these educational jobs. As they continue their college life they should keep searching
(Teacher) (Class) 1 November 2011 High School Vs. College Everyone needs a good education in order to sufficiently make it through life these days. In order to achieve this, a person must graduate high school and college. Many people seem to think life as a high school student and a college student are very similar, but to me they have many differences. When I graduated high school, I decided that I would go to college and I became very aware of not only the differences, but the similarities as well. A couple of the things I noticed were the differences in the scheduling and rules and attitudes, responsibility on my part, and the work load.
It also means more recognition per student and individual teaching. At Universities there is much less one on one time. Classrooms and lectures are fully crowded with hundreds of students per one teacher. Although, Community College cannot provide students with the same degrees that Universities can, "Most general ed. coursework that a University requires of its freshmen and sophomores can be taken at a Community College.
