I want my employees under me to be able to learn from me and how I work and deal with situations in the work field. If I learn more about my learning skills I will be able to improve myself as well as the people who work around me. Usually in a work environment people usually follow by example and if I am doing what I am suppose to do then the people under me follow suit. My personal learning style influences my career competencies' more than what I thought. So I found out I need to become more of a thinker and work on my analytical skills.

The question now arises is that why we in general and teachers in particular should reflect on our practice? Firstly, it is required for personal and professional growth. With the help of reflective writings we attempt to enhance our mental capabilities and improve our practice. Also, it helps us to do things right and be able to justify our actions. Reflective writings make us creative and innovative and facilitate us to consider fundamental issues in learning.
It will also show that I reflect on my experiences of using knowledge and skills and how they have helped my own social work practice. I will evaluate the relevance and impact the areas had on my practice and how it helped me develop a better understanding of the individuals I worked with. I’ll reflect on how my learning from these experiences has helped my understanding of service users and the contexts in which they live. I will use Kolb’s (1984) theory of experiential learning i.e. the cycle of learning to enable me to develop my own understanding and as a reflective practitioner I can link this with Schon’s (1983) concepts of reflecting in action and reflecting on action to help improve my actions and professional practice and show that I evaluate my experiences and integrate it to theory and knowledge in supervision (Aids to Practice cards, Values and Ethics, p112).
