VOCs were broken down into specific contaminants which include chlorobenzene, 1, 2, 4-trichlorobenzene, and trichloroethene (EPA, 2012). Chlorobenzene also known as mono-chlorobenzene is a toxic chemical that is frequently used in manufacturing and producing pesticides such as DDT (OEHHA, 2000). Mono-chlorobenzene can also be used in to produce other manmade chemicals such as nitrochlorobenzenes and diphenyl oxide. All chemicals listed have been used primarily to create herbicides, rubber chemicals, and one of Ciba-Geigy Corporations largest product, dye. The chemical is a colorless liquid which makes it nearly impossible to detect in water and has the ability to harm the population by inhaling the polluted air (OEHHA, 2000).
Hoses can be undone, gaskets can fail, pits leak and liquids always hit the ground, repeatedly in large quantities. Fracking needs a lot of work to be done before it can begin obtaining oil. The fracking fluids have a lot of toxic chemicals and become even more contaminated when pumped down a hole as they travel through rock formations before returning to the surface as flow back. The liquids can cause ground contamination and even in small portions can contaminate shallow aquifers with hydrocarbons, toxic chemicals, heavy metals and radioactive
Power source: the desktop computer contains a power supply that draws power from a wall outlet and may provide hundreds of watts of power to the system. The notebook computer relies on rechargeable battery for power when not plugged Software: both types of computers can run the same operating systems and application program. Size: the desktop computer sits on a desk and is not easily portable. The notebook computer sits on the top of a table or in your lap and easily portable. Power saving: both types of computers can hibernate or sleep when not being used.
Waste and Energy Sandra Jenkins, William Matos, Tony Brown, Steve Olberding ENV/100 May 26, 2014 Jennifer Ott Waste and Energy Plastics and pesticides are both a type of waste. The former is considered a solid waste and the latter is a categorized as hazardous waste. Where do these wastes come from and what kind of effect do they have on the environment either when they are used or disposed of? Oil and natural gas are fossil fuels that emit their own waste once used. The effects of their use on the environment can be far reaching and detrimental to health of humans, animals, and other organisms that inhabit the earth.
Secondly, the area has several faults running through the area where the proposed facility was to be built. Constant shaking of the ground is going to do damage to any structure in the area. Finally, the water source underneath the facility may be needed in the future to provide water to metropolitan areas. Radioactive waste is dangerous wherever it is stored. I believe that placing these materials in an area which is unstable would just be a mistake.
HCS/320 Communication and Crisis Paper By: Theresa Kamara Professor Tracey Collins A crisis is an unexpected situation that cannot be prepare for. It can negatively affect or poses harm to a person, town, country or community. Unexpected situations can cause panic paving the way for the worst outcome. Natural disaster and man-made disaster two forms of crisis. A natural disaster is an event that occurs due to the environmental factors of the earth.
Conversely, Chemical plants can contaminate the pure water or create harmful diseases to humans and the Earth. The West Virginia chemical spill demonstrates the dangers chemical plants pose to our environment, and it is important to understand the devastating
Sulfuric Acid is a strong acid that exists as a colorless oily corrosive liquid and is made by reacting sulfur trioxide with water. This is most commonly found in batteries, manufacture of fertilizers, explosives, detergents, dyes and other different chemicals. Sulfuric Acid is very dangerous to humans as it can cause respiratory tracts of humans and other animals while doing some major damage to plants that helps provide oxygen for us. Ground-level ozone is a secondary air pollutant formed when sunlight triggers reactions between nitrogen oxides and volatile hydrocarbons. If a human inhales ground-level ozone it can cause chest pain, throat irritation, and congestion.
b) The dangers associated with not following safe practices. Hazardous Substances are used in many workplaces and take many different forms. Exposure to hazardous substances can affect the body in many different ways. Skin contact, inhalation and ingestion can cause damage. The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (known as COSHH) says that employers must identify which hazardous substances are present in the work place.
It also have some very harmful effects on humans and nature. It creates large amount of pollution, destroys the nature and also increases the diseases in human societies. As in documentary about “The Ethics of Fracking” by Marleen troy PhD (Environmental Engineer), Bernard Prausak and Rabbi Mordechai Liebling.
