The Fallacy of Gun Control in America COM/215 The Fallacy of Gun Control in America Proposed gun control laws that ban gun ownership are a violation of every American’s Constitutional right to keep and bear arms and should be rejected. The debate concerning gun control has recently become a major point of contention in America. Any federal law that affects the nation must be made using rational and logical analysis. These analyses should be based on individual rights and perhaps even a little common sense. Although these ideals seem simple to many people, they are lost on the majority of the Democratic Party in America.
William Graham Sumner is not correct to say that, “The ‘right’ way is the way which the ancestors used and which has been handed down.” These “Folkways” are not a good guide to moral truth. Cultural relativist, William Graham Sumner is not correct to say that, “The ‘right’ way is the way which the ancestors used and which has been handed down.” These “Folkways” are not a good guide to moral truth. Two arguments will be presented to support this thesis. Firstly, Sumner’s statement is invalid as his claim is self-refuting. Secondly, moral absolutes do exist.
Santa-Maria also says that while Franklin promotes the idea of being like Socrates, Franklin is in fact more like Epicurus. Santa-Maria ends his essay by stating that he believes that Franklin’s interpretation of virtue is a failure, and that moral perfection is impossible. I believe that Santa-Maria’s critical essay was very clearly written and thought-provoking. He expresses his ideas very clearly, and has a lot of background information to back it up. It was very easy to comprehend what he believed, and easy to see why he felt this way.
I believe that if hate speech codes were put in action in every college and university people would see a drastic decrease in racism on college grounds. For one, if it’s clear that racist, hatful comments will be reprimanded; many people will keep racial comments and gestures off of campus grounds in fear of being sanctioned. I feel that when campuses eliminated racial hate speech out of school property, it opens the opportunity for heated educational debates that teach people to disagree more civilly. Also, allowing debated on race and stereotypes without the use of racial hate speech gives a platform for people with opposing views to become less ethnocentric, and more tolerable to different opinions, and
Security vs. Privacy We know that people want security in their in life but prefer their privacy, so when it comes down to it which is more important? We read how Bruce Schneier wanted the people to have privacy and how he knows that people don’t do anything but with constant surveillance the government will accuse you of something. As on the other hand we have Chris Cillizza who believes that privacy is important but it won’t keep you safe from foreign attacks. Also Cillizza shows that any type of information that the government finds suspicious will put people at risk. Honestly in this type of argument it comes down to the better facts rather than opinions and that’s why Cillizza makes the better argument.
As a democratic nation, free speech has always been present. At first, conservatives did not favor free speech because it protected the views of minorities and have attempted to limit the freedom to express because it went against their beliefs, for example, the burning of the U.S flag. Burning the flag is a way to express one’s views but it also goes against what conservatives believe. In the past, the liberals have been those that have tried to remove those limits on the freedom to express set by conservatives because expression encourages ideas. However when it comes to the use of language, conservatives believe that it is their freedom of speech to use whatever language they want, whenever they want, and to whomever they want.
Arguments on Gun Control A lot of people feel that some forms of gun laws are needed to lower the level of gun related violence and crimes in the US. The opponents of gun control feel that it would be an infringement on their second amendment rights. The outcome of gun control has strong political implications because it determines the present day meaning of the Second Amendment. Each side has strong points to their arguments but I feel it should be the right of every person to make their mind up for their self. In the1800s the supreme court made the decision that the “right of bearing arms for a lawful purpose is not a right granted by the Constitution” followed up with a decision that states are “free to regulate the rights of citizens to bear arms”.
Jeremy Kazmierczyk Mrs. Philips Brit Lit/Comp I 26 March 2018 Gun Control’s Broken Promises Is taking away the American citizen’s right to self protection the answer to criminal violence? While the constitution seemingly protects Americans’ right to bear arms, many disagree that gun rights are necessary because of violence that has occurred with the use of firearms. Many Supreme Court cases have taken place with firearms as the subject, and firearm ownership has been regulated and restricted by many states across the U.S.A. However, the debate still remains whether or not further gun control is still needed. Gun Control is not a logical solution to gun violence because it is not proven to be effective in reducing crime, it limits the
This is because prejudice has become more subtle. Unlike in traditional systems, in modern society, people conceal their prejudice to avoid the term “racist”. However, when there is a favorable environment, the concealed prejudice is expressed (Neil, 2008). For instance, most American parents are not for the idea of School desegregation, but on the contrary they oppose the idea of busing their
Here are some examples of why some believe we should not uphold the right to freedom of speech within our public school system: Many students believe that school uniforms should not be introduced, because of the limitation of their freedom. I believe that introducing a uniform to the school would decrease the diversity between each student, and it will be the solution for many problems. Taking this issue in to consideration, I wish to explain the benefits/ advantages of wearing a uniform to school. I personally think that a dress code enforces discipline in learning by changing a person’s attitude toward success. Students generally act the way they are dressed.
