Word Count: 944 The AIDS of Liberalism Introduction In his article on Gun-Free America or the Cancer of Authoritarian “Security” Mark Andrew Dwyer calls for the abolition of what he refers to as the “AIDS of Liberalism”. He notes that Americans have lost their freedom rights and are instead living under a controlled system where law enforcers are in full control and citizens are required to submit. This is his central focus in the article and he accuses the public sector of accumulating all the power and using it to control the Americans. He describes them as a “cancer” that is eating up the nation which has already been destroyed by the AIDS of Liberalism. Instead, it will only take a toll on the innocent Americans who will not be able to protect themselves in case of an attack. It will also be a violation of people’s right and in addition, the citizens will lose their trust towards their elected leaders. The law enforcers should treat people with respect and fulfil their duty to protect and serve instead of using their power to terrorise them because without these people, they would not be enjoying those privileges. Liberalism is slowly going to change the country, and soon people will be under the rule of a few privileged individuals. Taking away people’s right to own firearms, as Dwyer notes, is a calculated move aimed at leaving the people with no free will. Americans are no longer safe because Liberalism and its ideologies has done away with the safety measures that were aimed at keeping criminals in jail, deporting illegal migrants who are known for their unlawful activities and ensuring that mental patients remain in hospitals. These people are now freely loaming the streets, endangering people’s lives and instead of preventing and stopping this from happening, the government is only keen at imposing the gun-control law on law-abiding citizens. He uses this expression as a light term that is not as offensive as other terms would have been, yet it achieves its purpose. Dwyer might have chosen this expression to show that he was angry with the current situation, but he did not want to be offensive by using other terms. Biased language is depicted by Dwyer’s use of the expression “illegal aliens”. Labelling a person as an illegal alien portrays that the individual, as opposed to his or her actions, is unlawful. By using this term Dwyer implies that the person’s very existence as an authorized migrant in the country is criminal. His use of the term is not only dehumanizing, but also racial and ethnically biased. Conclusion In conclusion, the article portrays a detailed discussion on Dwyer’s views towards the gun control law and the state of the country under the current government. He uses language to sway his readers and provides evidence to support his views. He does not hide his resentment towards the public sector and calls upon people to take lawful action and deal way with Liberalism AIDS and also cure the cancer of the public sector.
