It is definitely one of the main countries to be considered as the most important “pot” of different language influences, ethnic mixtures and the birthplace of many distinct dialects. It is nearly impossible to answer the questions which city was the first that embodied American diversity. However we can mention one important influence on the English language. Due to the French colony settled to the U.S., in 1718, commended by Jean Baptiste Le Moyne, Sieur de Bienville, there has been an influence on the English language. New Orleans was born and named after the French Duke d’Orlean. Nowadays, New Orleans is one of the last remaining cities whose French origins are still apparent and audible in the spoken language. We need to get an overview of the American history, to understand the extent French had on English. In connection to, there will be a brief definition of the three most important dialects, “Créole”, “Cajun” and the so called “Yat-Dialect” before finishing off with an overview on the French influence today. Leading questions that can be helpful to examine this case are the following. 1. Where did the French influence come from? 2.
