However, Study Skills comes with many important reasons to keep the class. The class would allow practicing the material in his classes. They allow him note take and further intensive reading, which would allow him to understand the material better. The class has no papers to turn to the professor. Even though he has a full load of classes not having turn any work would allow him to relax, because he would focusing on current and not any extra work.
Final exams are a time of stress for students to worry about if they can recall all the lessons that their professors have went over within that semester. Students who are scarcely passing any of their classes need their final exams to be passing grades, so they tend to study a little harder. Finals also allow students to see how all the lessons they have learned connect through small facts. Identifying and understanding thoroughly everything the professor particularly emphasizes in class can be a hard and tough experience when preparing to study for finals. In Joy Alonso’s “Two Cheers for Examination “she uses examinations to examine the purposes and useless of exams in two and four year colleges to appear to students and teachers.
I mean, sure, grades are very motivational, but they are also very harming. Countless suicides are caused by grades and pressure, and I think it just really isn’t necessary to put a student on the spot like that. Let’s say a student makes straight A’s. That’s great in most cases, but does it really self-motivate the student into learning more, or does it give them a little lee-way to slack off and maybe not study as much? Or let’s say that a student gets straight C’s.
First, my mannerisms have expanded beyond my wildest dreams the school stresses giving respect to everyone and everything. Our former Vice Principal often said, "Character can be measured not by one's interaction with people who are better off than him or herself, but by one's interactions with those who are worse off." The other prime goal of the school's community is to convert every single timid lower-classman into a assertive self confident senior. Basically, if you have an opinion about something, it is wrong not to voice that opinion. Of course, being obnoxious is not the idea.
I really enjoyed getting to know 2 of my team members whom I worked very closely with on this project and will keep in touch with after this class is long over. As for what could have gone better, I feel we had some serious disruptions that caused our group to form in a reactive manner… versus naturally; I would have liked to experience a more solid group experience. 2. If working in a group: What did you learn from working in a project group? Aside from the class content I learned that I don’t wait for things to happen I went into this telling my group that under no circumstance could I lead this project but I found myself incapable of waiting for things to evolve on their own, I have more of a leader personality than I thought.
Gatto’s long, and successful, career within the American education system serves as more than enough evidence to confirm the credibility and accuracy of his opinions. His career is another indicator of his love for educating young people. Gatto doesn’t believe in forcing students to learn on a strict schedule (i.e: six classes a day, five days a week, nine months a year, for 12 years). He bonds boredom, a common condition possessed by not only students but teachers as well, to schools in the U.S school system. Many of his students said they weren’t interested in what was being taught because it was stupid and they already knew the material.
The teachers also should have stepped in when they saw the fight happening and not just stood there. It teaches us students that we should stand up for kids, and teachers are not always the good person in the situation and there could be favoring. In conclusion, I think that The Chocolate War was a very good book that taught very interesting lessons. It always makes me think twice but saying, “no” to something that I should do. I think the lesson here is to just plain out respect everyone and you will not have any problems.
If a student has good test grades and isn't just dozing of in class then maybe that teacher shouldn't require them to, or grade them on their notes. It's a very simple solution that wouldn't have any negative effects as long as it was handled properly. JUST STOP MAKING ME TAKE NOTES! I don't mean to seem rude or disrespectful to my teachers, but it really would mean a lot to me if those who do make me take notes would at least consider what I'm saying. And to help them do that I plan on giving them a copy of this speech along with my ongoing protest by accepting F's on participation grades due to my lack of note taking.
Making it on your own At times people tend to work well while they are under pressure. To others they simply must be under pressure to get work done and give their full effort. In her article In Praise of the F Word, Mary Sherry argues “Flunking as a regular policy has just as much merit today as it did two generations ago. We must review the threat of flunking and see it as it really is- a positive teaching too.” By making it clear to students that flunking can definitely be a result of them not putting in the time and effort in assuring they pass their class will make them more determined to learn and earn their good grades, it will also help stop those students who choose not to even try in their classes. Also by making students fear failure it will not only motivate them
Math was something I was always good at because I looked at it like a challenge to my intellect, I am right or I am wrong. On one occasion when I was doing math work in class, my teacher asked me to do complex math problems, and I did them with no problem. My teacher was surprised I could do them; in fact she took me out of special education for math because of this. Now this gave me an outlook that my teacher did not know my potential as a student and she was not going to challenge me. She was just going to give me work based on what she thought my ability was.
