Hanged Man Ian Rankin, “The Hanged Man” is a story that takes place in a fairground, where a man named Mort is assigned to kill a Gypsy at a fairground. The reader then finds out later that the person he is trying to kill is his own Mother ‘Rosa’ and the person who assigned him was his Father. The writer uses clear and effective description by using a variety of different techniques. One of the techniques that the Author uses is setting, this is to help the reader imagine what is happening in the story so it gives them a feeling that they are there. One good example of this in The Hanged Man is, “The killer wandered through the fairground”.
He spends time on Tralfamadore, in Dresden, in the War, walking in deep snow before his German capture, in his mundane post-war married life in the U.S.A. of the 1950s, and in the moment of his murder by Lazzaro. Bob Ewell states the he was “Comin in from the woods with a load o’kindlin’ and just as I got to the fence I heard Mayella screamin’ like a stuck hog inside the house” on the night of November 21. After being thoroughly examined and questioned by Mr. Finch, Bob Ewell was dumbfounded when asked to write his name down there and then in front of the whole court. By asking Bob Ewell to write his name down he proved that Bob was in fact left-handed, this made it more likely for him to have beaten his daughter, who had bruises on the right side of her face. Following Bob Ewell, Mayella Ewell, the victim, gave her testimony. Mayella, age 19, seemed very fragile and started weeping as soon as she was asked to give her testimony.
Mysterious attacks against children have begun in the area where Lucy was buried, which comes to the conclusion that she is undead because of Dracula, and men set out to kill him. Throughout this novel determination, revenge and, fearlessness play a big role. Determination shows when Jonathan Harker is abducted by Dracula and he is hopeful and is not giving up on escaping. Like when he said "I cannot stay in this room much longer for I shall die." A small crack of light appeared through the stones.
Sleepy Hollow is an allegory that helps the audience understands how the characters and their ideas contribute to the elements of human perception. During story, person after person is murdered by an unknown creature that lives in the mysterious west woods. After several attempts of trying to discover who is responsible for mystery of the headless horseman, Constable Ichabod Crane, a scientist from New York, comes to revel all of the lies and secrets behind the matter .As the characters develop a phobia of the headless horseman, they come to fear the unknown and therefore suggest that the headless horseman is a mass murderer. Throughout the course of the story, the setting, characters, and plot are built on the perception of the unknown individual through fear, and speculation. Ichabod Crane lived in New York and took a wide interest in the field of science.
The screams grew higher and higher as he walks. He starts to hear a baby crying. ( That shows, that woman was pregnant) He wanted to call the police but when he touched to his pocket to take his phone his hand get through his leg. (Shows that he’s a ghost now) He was dead. All the forest represents his character; it’s dark, bad and sinful, which is directly Mr.Apotropaic.
From the moment Harry took Dexter in he noticed his lack of normal emotion and feeling which led him to suspect that Dexter had been permanently damaged from his traumatic experience. This suspicion was confirmed when Harry discovered a collection of buried animal bones in the back yard shortly before Dexter’s teenage years. However, instead of seeing Dexter’s bloodlust as an enigma, Harry takes Dexter under his wing and develops a way to control Dexter’s dark urges. By killing individuals that truly deserved to die. Harry develops a “code” which consists of a formal set of rules used to enact justice on criminals who have evaded punishment by finding loopholes in the justice system.
How has Mark Haddon use first person in The curious incident of the dog in the night time? Christopher becomes a detective to find out who murdered Mrs Shears’ dog. He then finds out the truth about his mother and runs away from home to find her. All the time this is happening Christopher is writing a book and it is this book that we read, told from Christopher’s point of view. I will explain Mark Haddon’s use of writing in the first person narrative and the advantages and disadvantages of writing in this particular style and how Mark Haddon overcomes the disadvantages.
Huck is adopted by the Widow Douglass in an attempt to “sivilize” him. Huck constantly discards the ideas of obedience taught to him. Due to his childhood Huck chooses to fake his own death and run away from his father, Pap. This is the first major deceit that appears in the novel. As Huck escapes he leaves behind clues to mislead his father and community, “I took the axe and smashed in the door.
As a young boy, Ben was pressured into entering the Marsten house, where Hubie Marsten hanged himself several years ago. Ben recalls, “When he went upstairs and opened a door he saw the ghost of Hubie Marsten, who hanged himself in that room. Ben ran out of the house..”, in fear for his life (Russell 28). Writing a novel based upon the Marsten house causes curiosity to rise in Ben's mind and influences him to break into the house that is the origin of his deepest and darkest fears. In doing so, he discovers the bodies of the victimes who have recently gone missing in the town.
