INTRODUCTION This document intends to show that the effects of globalization are present in the workings of Caribbean business and, has had an overall positive effect on the Caribbean business environment. Specifically the discussion will focus on the effect of globalization on the Clay Block Manufacturing Industry in Trinidad and Tobago. The Literature Review will seek to define Globalization as it relates to Trinidad and Tobago as well as summarize the various perspectives regarding the impact of Globalization on world economies. In the discussion, the impact of Globalization on the business environment of Trinidad and Tobago will be assessed. This assessment will evaluate the effects of Globalization from the perspective of the Clay Block Manufacturing Sector. Assessment will be done by asking the following questions. In an environment where Globalization exists: * are there greater choices available? * is the product or service (produced locally) of better quality? * is the cost of manufacturing the product or service better? * are the quantities being produced (locally) sufficient to meet demand? LITERATURE REVIEW What is Globalization? Globalization refers to the fact that countries are becoming more and more dependent on each other. Increasingly free trade, global finance and free movement of people have created a single global marketplace. International trade and investment across international borders are the main elements of this integration (Soubbotina and Sheram 2000, 66). In their famous discourse on globalization titled “How flat is the world: A discussion on Globalization.” Stiglitz and Friedman discussed at length the idea of how the technology platform has flattened the world and made it easier to share information and ideas across the globe (Stiglitz and Friedman 2006).
