In the case study 3-2 of Sperry/MacLennan Architects and Planners specializing in recreational facilities, is in the process of developing a plan to export the company’s services. It is intended to present the plan to the other directors at the first meetings in October. In their own region they are noticing Architectural services are showing signs of slowing and S/M realizes that it must seek new markets. The company is Canadian based, that specializes in recreational facilities. During the beginning business was going good; the firm had multiple offices to assist in having a presence for all licensing requirements during the housing boom of that era. After sometime the business slowed down, so much so that in the 1980’s the company downsized to three partners Drew, Shelia Sperry, and John McLennan. While having the slow moments two employees were willing to stay with the company and not even earn a pay check for a few months. In 1983 Sperry was awarded the aquatics facility for the Canada games in Saint John. By having the planning and design work for the aquatic facility, things started to turn around. Being wiser to the notion that tough times are always around the corner, their company being the ever presence in Canada, knew they would have to expand outside of their native country to acquire more business than just a few complexes a year.
