My interest and desire to study geography comes from an inquisitive nature to understand the world and people around me. This first stemmed when I travelled abroad for the first time to Bulgaria. I remember being in awe and enthralled by the size of the mountains and lakes we visited. The experience made me appreciate the size of the world and the different diversity and cultures within it. From then onwards I have always been keen to further my understanding of geography. I am currently studying Geography, Maths and Economics at A-Level and I feel these subjects provide me with an excellent stepping stone to study a course that has strands from each of these fields as they intertwine and compliment each other remarkably well. Studying Maths has enabled me to improve my analytical and problem solving skills, helping me to think independently and logically. Economics is exceptionally relevant in todays world and couples well with geography, this has enabled me to be synoptic in my writing and link the two topics together. Studying Geography has allowed me to gain a broad insight into both physical and human geography and the rich correlation between them. I have conducted detailed fieldwork analysis in both rural and urban environments during A-Level Geography. I Examined how river discharge changes from source to confluence of the River Chess and the role of gentrification in the development of Spitalfields Market. Completing Fieldwork had made me appreciate the use of skills and techniques, such as Field-Mans Rank, in the real world. Geography encompasses a vast array of topics and is constantly evolving and relevant, in todays current affairs. During my studies I came to understand the complex and tenuous relationships between countries and how this affects the energy supply of gas and oil.
