American exceptionalism can give America an edge over other nations simply because of our freedom to choose what we want to be and do. Americans may never trade or give up what they have in this country for anything different. We have high taxes, low minimum wages, and even may flaws in the political system and also corrupt politician that are supposed to keep us running. Many people may argue that the United States is better than almost any country because of our freedoms, but
Government’s aims are always to please the public, or do the best for the state and so these groups clearly show the government what a certain band of people wish to happen. They allow these people to meet up and band together to express common viewpoints; they provide a safe haven for people with a belief or grievance to vent their disenchantment. While it is beneficial to the democracy of the state to take note of these views they often are only a sectional interest of the population. By definition a pressure group only represents a sectional interest, the government is interested in national interest and so the two do not really come together. The government have to govern to the national interest rather than smaller sections of the community with a particularly large voice, in that sense these views can often be outnumbered by national beliefs yet a louder voice allows them to be implemented against the majority which can only be considered a disadvantage as it allows for sometimes unpopular and extreme beliefs to be taken into consideration when the ‘national interest’ would not wish them to be.
There are many advantages of a greater use of direct democracy. For example, everybody would be able to vote on every issue. This is good because it means everyone would be able to have a say, and would overall create a fairer system of governing. Also it means that we won’t be let down by our representatives, because in our current system our representatives are able to make decisions which many people would be against. As well as this, it would stop the need of things such as pressure groups, as everyone’s view is already taken into consideration.
Locke believed the power of the government came from the people and if the people are not happy with government actions then they have every right to overthrow the government. Locke believed people could survive in a natural state with no government but if the people like the government it can exist to benefit them. . (Locke, Chap. 4 Pg.
Governments are made up of humans like us. We as humans want are best for us and sometimes we don’t care if it hurts others, because we are selfish. The people we put in government offices are no different than the regular human. They can be as selfish as any of us. Power can lead anyone to be selfish.
Appreciate It People exist together almost completely free of fear in the US, usually complaining about things like taxes, money, and how someone thinks of someone else. Just think of countries like Israel, where war is everywhere. If we couldn't protect ourselves, we would be in chaos.  Our founding fathers insured us one very important ideal in the Preamble of the Constitution. Providing for the common defense has made us free of fear, a more able capitalistic state and a stable society for our future leaders. With the common defense, we have are free from worry at almost all times. The last time we have had a war on our land was the civil war, and that was almost 150 years ago. We walk around our cities and towns concerned hardly of death by foreign attack, as apposed to countries with a weaker military. The reason we weren't attacked before September 11th is because people are afraid to attack us for very good reasons. We will fight back, a thousand times harder, and they will loose. If we didn't have this kind of defense, how could we live our lives the way we do? Freedom from fear is something very important to our way of life. Which leads us to why we are able to have Capitalism the way that
He thought that the government would be given too much power. His thoughts on the injustices in the Constitution greatly influenced the making of the Bill of Rights. At the time, Federalists argued that the Constitution didn’t need a bill of rights, due to the fact that the people and states kept any powers not given to the federal government, but Anti-Federalists said that a bill of rights was necessary to safeguard individual liberty. So when the Bill of Rights was made it listed prohibitions on governmental power and the rights that were granted to people. When the Bill of Rights was adopted into the Constitution it was became the fundamental rights of all citizens in 1791.
Freedom of Speech is one of the most precious rights that we have as an American. In my opinion, free speech defines who we are as a nation. It is the most fundamental element of our lives. Without it, we would not be where we are today; however, limits should be placed. Hate speech or other speeches that can cause harm to society’s welfare should not be disclosed under any circumstances.
Abuses by the sovereign power are acceptable as long as it maintains peace within the society. According to Thomas Hobbes, the sovereign power has control over judicial, military and civil matters. Because the subjects of the civil society gave up their freedom of decision in order for the sovereign power to act for them, the individuals cannot break the contract between them and the sovereign, based on the actions that he undertakes in order to maintain peace within the society, but if the sovereign does not act with this principle as its goal, the subjects are allowed to break the social contract and seek the guidance of another sovereign power. The sovereign power is above the common law, as it is him that creates it and can simply change it at his will. He cannot be arrested or put to death by the people.
