Powell 1 Grayson Powell LeAnne Garner English 1010 1 December 2010 Football Versus Futbol Football Association, better known in America as soccer, is the single most popular sport in the entire world. While football is one of the most popular sports in America, soccer is loved and favored in countries all over the world. Having played both soccer and football in high school, I feel that soccer is a more difficult sport to play than football, because it is a sport that requires a great amount of skill, concentration, and endurance. There are many reasons why soccer is better than football. Soccer is the original football. The sport of soccer is recognized and played all over the world, where football is a sport that is commonly recognized and played only in the United States and Canada. Soccer does not allow as many brakes as football. Also scoring in soccer holds more weight. The sport of soccer originated in London, England in 1863 where it was give the name Football association. The sport was given the name football because it a sport that is played with a spherical ball and is controlled only by the feet. This makes the sport much more challenging because controlling a ball with your feet is unnatural to the body. Catching something with your hands is natural Powell 2 to the body so football is easier to get used to. To play any sport, it requires a great deal of strength and endurance. The sport of football consists of four fifteen-minute quarters with a twenty-minute brake in between quarters two and three. Football plays normally last between five to ten seconds, When the play ends a thirty second timer runs, giving the players a brake in between each play. Soccer however, consists of two forty-five minute halves where the clock runs continuously for each half. The players are allowed only one five-minute brake between halves. Where football
