The Project: Flower and Plants Observation and Collection Project This project is to observe the various plants and flowers growing under different conditions and for different purposes, the main being gardens (school garden), local community gardens and parks, gardens in apartment blocks, housing complexes, homes and around office buildings and lining the roads in avenues or boulevards. These habitats for flowers and plants (including trees and shrubs) are normally available in large towns and cities. However, if there is a national park, zoo, botanical garden, nursery or green house in the vicinity that is viable to visit, they should be given preference over other habitats as they cover maximum specimens in a wide variety of habitats. Along with observation, learners have to collect specimens of flowers, buds, leaves, petals, twigs and soil. The learners are to maintain a log book cum scrap book to note their observations and place some of the items collected by them (leaves, stems, flowers, buds, petals and soil) during course of various field trips. It is important to take permission of owners / caretakers wherever samples are collected and learners should be made aware about the ethics for obtaining permission from owners to collect specimens or pluck flowers and stems etc. The Target Age Group: 7 – 9 years. Duration of the project: Two weeks The Project – Planning, Materials, Activity & Details:- Plan: During school hours, arrangement can be made for learners to visit the School Gardens and Gardens in nearby homes, housing complexes or office buildings as well as avenues and boulevards to observe the plants and flowers lining them. If there is a park near the school, that too can be visited. In these two weeks, a visit or excursion to a zoo, botanical garden national park, nursery or green house can also be planned if viable. Beyond school
