Fire Tech. 209 05/15/2012 Fire Strategy & Tactics Term Paper 1-B/C, 1-Truck, 2-Engines, 1-Squad (Initial Response) dispatched to a structure fire on 13550 Paxton Street Pacoima. Time alarm received is 1400 mid day. Weather factors consisted of temperature 78 Degrees F., moderate wind, and low humidity. Streets and highways fully operational. Once on scene Paxton I.C assumed command and established command post in the Costco parking lot. It was stated that there was a Costco building structure on fire on the right side of the building facing the building itself. Fire fully developed. I.C. ordered for a MSDS and asked for the building engineer. HAZMAT was also ordered on scene by the I.C. due to building containing possible hazardous materials. At this time the railroad personnel were notified and the railroad located on San Fernando Road was shut down. Engine 1 arrived on scene and began search and rescue. Along with Engine 1 arrived Squad 1. Initial Response team was assigned to utilities shut off. Moments later arrived Truck 1 and Engine 2. Truck 1 performed ventilation while Engine 2 connected to the fire hydrant located on Paxton street and relayed a line to Engine 1 who had completed search and rescue. At this time an Operations Chief was assigned to overrun overall operation. The I.C. also requested a PIO, Safety Officer and Liaison Officer on scene. Engine 1 and 2 were now assigned to suppression. At this time Paxton I.C contacted dispatch for additional resources. Engines 4 and 5 along with P.D., 3 Medics, Trucks 2 and 3 were now dispatched and en route to scene. 118 freeway and exits were now shut down along with Paxton and San Fernando Road. Squad 1 completed all shut offs and were now assigned to use machinery to relocate valuables from the building to salvage whatever was able to be salvaged.
